Help needed with 98 Vanden Plas please!
Hello everyone,
Recently, my 98 XJ's rear parking lamps, license plate lights, side markers, and climate control and radio lights will not operate with the headlights set to on. I have checked the bulbs and the fuses in the rear floorboard, and all seems good there. Do you guys have any other ideas? Never had this problem with the 96 I also own, which has 175,000 miles. The car with the problem is a 98 Vanden Plas with 64,000 miles. Do I need a new BPM? Any other fixes?
I very much would appreciate your input, and thanks in advance...

Well, I do not think anyone can tell you if your BPM is bad without troubleshooting the car. You probably need to get someone who knows how to us a multimeter and figure out if you have a voltage drop or grounding problem supplying power to a the BPM circuits. I would cerainly check the BPM ground straps where they earth on a stud, and I would check the firewall power connections first.
great, thanks!! Just one other thing....
when I unlock the car, the drivers seat powers seemingly all the way forward every time I enter, even after previous adjustment....is this related to the memory seat function? Isn't it true that the remotes are linked to separate drivers (and thus seating positions). Do I have to reset the remote even though I have reprogrammed all the memory positions to one setting?
thank you all for your time-

9698xj: I just reprogrammed a new remote tonight and had the same problem. My Son figured it out, I'll let him continue....after programing the new keyfob I noticed the same thing...so i sat in the car with the key still in the ignition turned to the first position, hit unlock on the old/original key fob to set my seat to where I'm used to it being...hit the memory button on the door...then the number 1 button right below the memory button...then hit unlock on the new key fob...which was followed by the standard chime. after that I noticed that with both the "new" and old key fob, when the unlock button was pressed, the seat remained in the programed position. Hope this helps.
