Default 1999 XJ8 --> 1997 Headlights

I can't remember where I read it, but I am looking at converting the 1997 XJ6 Healights to 1999. Is it possible, and does anyone know where I would find the wiring differences,

So I did find that link but don't understand it. Does that mean I transfer the wires from one connector to the other to the same pins?

If I remember correctly , the small bulb courtesy lights are on the inboard lens on one x300 and the opposite outboard on the X308 or vice verso

It could be the highs on the inboard and then outboard positions

Best to mark with tape the position ( and up ) of the lens assemblies before swapping around least when you put it all together the curves of the hood will not fair in

Very frustrating

as to the connector wiring .........................

researching

I hate it when they have the different names for

High Beam =

Low Beam =

What he is referring to as sidelight is the courtesy light that only stays on for so long as you exit the vehicle at night

You can pull either the high or low beam relay to know the other wires are hot , or fuse

So for the X300 the low wire colors are

and high wire colors

Crossing X300 wire diagram........................................... ............

For the left

Pin 4 and 5 Black ground............................................ ...............same on X308 ( 1999 ) bulb socket

Pin 3 ( Blue / White ) main beam hot...........................................Blue / Black

Pin 2 ( Blue / Yellow ) dip beam hot............................................... .Blue / Yellow.

Pin 1 ( Red / Pink ) pilot light hot only on exiting car....................Red / Pink

For the right

Pin 4 and 5 Black ground............................................ .............same

Pin 3 (Blue / White ) main beam hot.....................................Blue / White

Pin 2 (Blue / Yellow ) dip beam hot...................................... Blue / Pink

Pin 1 ( Purple / Yellow ) pilot light hot.................................Red / Yellow

Now matching the colors up with the X308 ( 1999 ) as the X308 bulb connector pigtail........................................... ...

I'll have to go back and double check my table in a bit

For those wishing to do it. I found this post from @The Black MUNK

"The X308 headlight swap is easy. I just bought the complete units with the mounting brackets from an on-line breakers, see attached photo. You need to get the harness connector blocks too, as they are different between the X300 & X308. They came with the bulb, which are also different. The connectors need to be swapped over and the wiring colours are different. You need to either cut & solder the wires between the two, or get new crip connectors for the blocks.

The colours are:

RH
CAR - X308 light connector
Black - Black
Black - Black
Purple/White - White
Blue/Yellow - Blue
Blue/White - Orange/Yellow

LH
CAR - X308 light connector
Black - Black
Black - Black
Red - Red/White
Blue/Yellow - Blue/Yellow
Blue - Blue/White"

After looking at the x308 connector these colors are not correct.

I believe they are

RH
Black-Black
Black-Black
Purple White-Red/Yellow
Blue/Yellow-Blue/Purple
Blue/White-Blue/White

LH
Black-Black
Black-Black
Red-Red
Blue/Yellow-Blue/Yellow
Blue-Blue/Black

Somewhere around 1999 they had some wiring changes as this related to an engine upgrading from the AJ26 to 27

The AJ26 engine had no steel sleeves in the cylinders causing compression problems ( nickosil coating reacting to sulfur in fuel , eroding compression to even start )

I only noticed a couple changes notably the AJ27 MAF connector pin map

Added some information that might be helpful since the 1998 electrical guide does not spell out the headlights and colors. It does detail out the fog lights very well

RH
Black-Black. **Ground
Black-Black. **Ground
Purple White-Red/Yellow. ***Pilot
Blue/Yellow-Blue/Purple. ***Dip
Blue/White-Blue/White. ***Main

LH
Black-Black **Ground
Black-Black **Ground
Red-Red. ***Pilot
Blue/Yellow-Blue/Yellow ***Dip
Blue-Blue/Black ***Main

Dipped lights, also known as low beam headlights, are the standard headlights on a vehicle that are used for driving at night and in poor visibility. They are angled downward to illuminate the road ahead without blinding other drivers:
