Question 5 Beeps after I turn car off!!

Hello my1995 VDP started doing 5 beeps 5 times after I turn it off. I looked here in the forms and seen that it says it is a Clean Aerial Warning. So far I have cleaned the old antenna. That did not fix the beeping. Next took the antenna out and apart to deep clean it. That still didn't fix it. I also have a 1995 XJ6 I took the antenna out of it and put it in the VDP. This did not fix the 5 Beeps. I also tried disconnecting the battery for 10-15 minuets. I do not find any info on the Beeps after you turn the car off. Is there a Beep code guide? I did see how to turn off the Clean Aerial Warning using the stock radio. I do not have the stock radio. It wasn't in the car when I bought it. Please help it is driving me crazy!!!!

The stock radio didn't make it two years. I have the receipt for it's replacement in 1997. I will record the beeping and post ASAP.

is it possibly from the aftermarket head unit then? My Sony head unit beeped every time I turned the ignition off (to remind me to remove the front face for security), so you have to look in the settings section on your head unit.

The 5 beeps 5 times sound comes from the glove box area. I will work on the video today.

Does your SRS warning lamp work? It should come on when the ignition is turned on and then go off after a few seconds.

The Air Bag control module is behind the glovebox. If there is an Air Bag fault, and a problem with the SRS lamp circuit, then the Air Bag control module will beep 5 times. It should do this every 30 mins while driving the car. (Just a guess but it may beep after ignition off if you haven't driven 30 mins?)

Yes it dose beep even after not driving the car!! I have found it making the 5 beeps 5 times in the morning two times now. The SRS light was on when I bought the car but it never made any beep sounds. Thank you for this info!! I will add it to my list of possible causes. This sounds like the issue.

Can this be turned off?

So far it is between the SRS system and the Security system.

I talked with a retired Jaguar mechanic today and he told me to try a reset of the tilt sensor. Maybe the car isn't happy about the new tires? He didn't remember if the reset switch is on the front left or right side under the dash. I will be looking for it. I hope that works I really don't want to play with the SRS system.

THIS DID START AFTER I HAD NEW TIRES INSTALLED ON THE CAR!!

It was the SRS AIRBAG DIAGNOSTIC MODULE that was beeping. I disconnected both battery terminals Negative first and waited 10 minutes for the SRS AIRBAG DIAGNOSTIC MODULEs battery to discharge. Next I I unplugged both cables from the SRS AIRBAG DIAGNOSTIC MODULE LNA2278AA . I reconnected the battery cables positive first! I was able to start the car and when I turned it off no beeping. Can I still drive the car with the SRS AIRBAG DIAGNOSTIC MODULE disconnected? I do understand that the airbags will not work if I leave it this way. Will it cause any other issues?

Well it won't impact on driving the car per se. But, as you've already said the air bags obviously won't work, so it's not the right answer.

In the UK it would be an instant MOT fail, you need to check the laws in your area. Also, it may invalidate your insurance as you have disabled a major factory fitted safety system.

The Air Bag system is not so hard to diagnose and fix. I made a guide some years ago. I've attached it here and may help you.

DUMMIES addendum regarding the airbag module:

I had the AIRBAG warning for several months continuously last year. Oddly, there was never any beeping (hence my slow pace at diagnosis). Using the DUMMIES guide I found no faults with any components. I finally removed the control module and found the internal thermal fuse blown, which means the module must be replaced.

I don't know why the thermal fuse was blown in the first place. It is a safety feature in case of a short in the system somewhere. I am not clear as to whether the beeping indicates a failure OTHER than the thermal fuse. Old age probably played a factor in the blow.

I then found a new module, with the help of the Bay, sourced from Wilson Auto Parts in Massachusetts. They have a supply of new/old stock modules for many Fords of the 90s era. Look up their dot com. The Jaguar labeled part is 100% Ford, as in Tempo and Taurus. So buying the Ford item saved money. A big bonus to get one NOS too, instead of used. It was $38 + shipping.

It did indeed solve the problem. No more airbag warning. There were no faults with my system other than the module itself.

I am relieved that the system works now (and will work if needed), and there is no more annoying warning light. I don't think the motor vehicle division here OR the insurance company would care if the system is in operating condition or not! Funny as to which battles the different governments choose to fight.

New module on the right. A point of interest is that the internals of the new one are slightly different than the original, perhaps improved, with the manufacture date being later by 4 years. It is labeled F5DF 14B056BA and is a direct replacement for the F2DF, F3DF, F4DF series made by Ford.

The thermal fuse is inside of the black/white box on the left. it is coupled with a large 15 ohm resistor. The original unit had open circuit across the fuse terminals. It "could be" replaceable.

I've been meaning to write this up for a while, so here it is, finally. I was just waiting for the right opportunity. "This Works", Rick.

The 5 beeps is a backup warning system.

It will occur for any Air Bag fault if the control module ALSO detects a fault with the SRS Warning light on the dash.
