ABS/TRAC lights on
Hello guys, i have a 96 xj6 and just recently my ABS light as well as the TRAC light has been staying illuminated while the car is running.. What is the fix for this..?
Clean the wheel sensors first for they cloud over with grease causing CELs and can be removed to cleaned without jacking the car ( 10 mm ) . Spray the bolts and sensor interface into the hubs opening the night before because the plastic sensor breaks if preyed out to hard . The code will not clear until you reach 12.5 mph on test flight . Further questions , just post .
If you want the exact cause you will need to read the DTCs from the module.
Likely a C1095 but without the proper code reader, we are just guessing.
If you have Traction Control it might be the position sensor??

When my 95 had the same problem I assumed C1095 as Bob suggested. My Autoenginuity software will not communicate with the 95 so I went ahead and pulled the module and re-soldered the contacts to the ABS pump and that solved the problem
But I would have checked the wheel sensors and cables first if I wasn't confident that they were good.

Dude , you can read the sensors before you clean them and if there is any problems in removing them and if there is a open one then it is obviously bad before you remove them .1300 ohms but it doesn't mean one is good .If you want to put a meter on them before you possibly break one to see if one is out of range ( 1300 ohms if I remember ) you can unbolt the module connector and read socket pairs 5-6 LF 7-8 RF 9-10 LR 11-12 RR but the generated signal it makes is pulsed shape you can't see without spinning .

You can also hit the module with your hand while the car is off and then restart it. This always works for me, been doing it for years now. It will also tell you that the module board probably needs to be re-soldered if you are so inclined;-)
