Default Alarm question

My fob has now packed in and despite buying a replacement off Ebay I have been unable to get the car to enter the learning mode.

So I only have the key to turn off the alarm.

My question is if I needed to remove the battery/negative cable, would this reset the alarm and would I be able to turn it off with the key alone?

FOB's are frequency specific for different parts of the world . North America is 315 . Look on the back of the old and new and ensure they match . There are replacement thumb switches and rubber covers available to repair these FOB's ( and you might be able to repair what you have in hand ) if I can find them again . It is the positive cable you want to remove .

Someone will come along about the reprogramming

The problem is that i don’t know whether the car enters the learning mode or not, because she doesn’t beep to acknowledge

Interesting, this

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ers-faq-33580/

Gives alternative method for 1997+ using the flashing five times rather than the valet button. Will try.

Is your sounder actually working? Have you ever heard it working? Mine doesn't make any sound because the sounder is shot, yours is probably the intelligent sounder with the batteries, I'd be surprised if it actually worked.

I programmed mine using the usual programming method, I think it took 3 or 4 attempts though before it all worked

Re your fob, whats wrong with it? Maybe it can be fixed?
