Default Best brake pads for low dust?

1997 XJ6 Vanden Plas...what are the best brake pads for low dust?

Had cheap ones installed last time, can't keep my front alloys clean.

I've been using Akebonos for years - makes wash day a lot easier.

I've been pleased with ceramics.

+1 on the Akebono "Euro" pads, which are very popular in the BMW crowd too for good braking, long life and nearly zero dust.

They don't feel like they have as immediate a "bite" as semi-metallic, but they reportedly stop just as well as comparable semi-metallic.

I've had them for a few years now and like them.

I have had AKEBONO fitted since 2017, cannot agree more with all the previous comments.
EUR394A - front
EUR688 - rear
Here in Australia they are very expensive through local distributors and I found rears were not available at the time, however I sourced front & rear at reasonable prices from the USA.

Slightly off-topic, but I found that Akebono EUR394A were too thick to fit in my front calipers as provided. I had to abrade them down by about a millimeter each.

That's concerning, I have some front ones arriving shortly and new rotors so minimum clearance options

Gday Oliver,

I fitted Akebono pads to my car years ago and had no trouble at all fitting them and they work fine and make almost no dust.

Cheers,
Jeff.

I have "EBC Red Stuff" pads on my 1995 XJR and am happy with them - really low dust and good stopping power. Product code is DP3689/2C (front) and DP3940C (rear).

I'll add to the chorus of happy Akebono users. I've been using them on all my vehicles and friends' Jags and other luxury-performance cars for years now and am very happy with the fine, light-colored, less-adhesive dust that helps the wheels stay clean-looking longer.

I agree with Al that they require slightly greater pedal pressure for similar braking power compared to semi-metallics, but you get used to it very quickly and it is not an issue. They stop very well.

Recently, when Akebonos were not readily available, I have installed the Brembo NAO Ceramics on a couple of Jaguars, and they also seem to be a "low-dust" pad.

X300 Front: P36007N
X300 Rear: P36008N

Cheers,

Don

Can’t find Akebono in the UK. The part number only brings up Mintex. Is Mintex the same?

Mintex is not the same as Akebono. Mintex is a Jaguar OEM and makes excellent pads, but they produce typical OEM levels of brake dust. Other Jaguar brake pad OEMs include Ate (Teves), Jurid, Ferodo, Textar, TRW, Brembo and Alcan. Most OE pads are semi-metallic, but if you can find ceramic pads from one of these companies, they may produce less dust.

I have installed the Brembo NAO Ceramic pads on a couple of XEs because the Akebono's were not available, and the Brembo ceramics seem to produce less dust than the OE pads.

Cheers,

Don
