Both rear windows don't fully go down
I've had my X300 for several years but as the rear windows are seldom if ever used I've just noticed that both of them only go down about three quarters of the way. If it was happening to just one I'd suspect a fault of some kind but as the same thing happens with both and to exactly the same position it's either a huge coincidence that both have the same problem or there is some other reason-

I rarely have any windows down anyway, preferring air-con and certainly the few people I ever allow into the rear (!!) haven't noticed.

As I said it's really not odd or unusual. If you look at most 4-door sedans you'll see that the "dog leg" of the rear wheel opening dictates the shape of (and decreases the size of) the rear door.
Is yours a short wheelbase car? I wonder if the rear doors of long wheelbase car are large enough to allow the window to fully retract?
I seldom use the windows myself. In fact, when I saw your posting I went to my car to roll down the rear windows....and I can't remember the last time I ever used them !

Even if you have no real use for them, you guys should cycle the windows once every few weeks - as I understand it, they are another 'use it or lose it' mechanism.
Too true! Whenever I change oil I exercise all the key locks because they never get used. I should add rear windows to my checklist

I told my kids that it was a safety precaution so that they wouldn't stick their head out too far. 
It is the same on the LWB VDP as it is on the Base XJ6

I know the LWB version will be longer than the SWB but by exactly how much?
Also, were the LWB models popular/more popular than the SWB? Or the other way around?
When I see other X300s I must confess I don't notice any wheelbase differences. Why?
Are the differences so small or are the overwhelming majority SWB?
I recall that the increase was 125mm.
It IS hard to tell at a glance, yes. I think all the length was added aft of the "B" pillars so look at the rear doors.
For the USA market virtually (perhaps literally) all the 1995 cars were SWB. For 1996-97 the XJR remained SWB and I think the standard XJ6 did as well....while the VDP and V12 were LWB.
Now that I've said that it occurs to me that the standard XJ6 may have been offered in both SWB or LWB..with the latter being a bit most costly, of course.
Not sure about the rest of the world cars.

1997: SWB(XjR, Xj6), LWB(VDP, Xj6L, Xj12(Where available))

I think it was a triumph on Jaguar's part, to increase the length enough to significantly improve rear seating without ruining the look of the car. Really, the X300L looks no less sleek or sporting than the standard models.

and the longer wheel base gives a smoother ride. I specificlly bought a VDP LWB when the kids were small to keep me from getting killed......Having to turn around and yell at them for kicking the back of the seat and getting in a accident
I was looking/hoping for a LWB...that was the target....but when I came across the 95 VPD I couldn't turn away....
As for the rear seaters, you may be surprised to find 9 of 10 potential rear-seaters opt for the 95 VDP over the '91 Gr. Marquis despite the greater rear seat legroom in the latter..

Speaking of tall, the LWB cars have a higher ceiling - sitting in the back of my SWB X300 I'm forced to stoop, but in my dad's LWB nothing is touching my head (even with the headlining sagging!).
