Car will not start
I have a 1995 XJ6 it has always started since I bought the car now it will not start. I thought it was the battery because its 10 deg outside right now and the last time I drove the car was last Friday. I got a boost but it didn't help. So I am thinking maybe either the fuel pump ICM or CPS? I had an issue with the CPS on my last car and it had the same symptoms as the JAG has now.
One possible clue:
If the tach needle does not bounce a little while cranking, it's likely the crank sensor that has failed.
Note that if the needle does bounce it doesn't positively prove the CPS is good. But, if it doesn't bounce, I'd go ahead and replace the CPS.
Cheers

Found your thread by researching. Not a Jag specialist and I am looking into owning one. But, you can narrow down with some starting fluid. On my other cars I disconnect the intake hose at the throttle body(avoid sensors like the MAF as it can damage them) and spray starting fluid in the Throttle body. It should at least try to crank if not crank since you have air sensors disconnected from the system. This can help rule out fuel related issues if it still doesnt crank. Again Im sure others will correct me if this is wrong or bad as Im not familiar with Jags but I do this on all my cars when trouble shooting. Again just trying to help and Im sure I will be corrected if this is bad.

The car is cranking so that rules out the starter. I will try some starting fluid, I am thinking its the CPS. Before the starting issue the car ran just fine. When my CPS went out on my last car I had the same symptoms.
I checked the fuel pump relay and its clicking so I know its working. I also heard the fuel pump hiss when I turned the key. I also put in a new fuse for the fuel pump as well. So I am pretty sure that rules out the fuel pump. I think its time for a new CPS. Can I test the current CPS before buying a new one?
I am back, I bought a new CPS but I ran out of daylight to install it. But my problem is to unclip the connector whats the best way to do that? I will try with a screw driver. Anybody have any other tips?
