The title seems to say it all. People should look at it for context.

The OP published an account of something he did that didn't
work out so well this one time and he knows why.

There was no recommendation that anyone follow his lead or
use any particular product. Only what he did, and what he
intended to use in the aftermath.

So far, that seems like fair ball.

Now, drinking poison is generally believed to be a bad idea.

Most people accept that as fact.

Alcohol is a poison.

Yet, people have extolled the virtues of drinking certain particular
variants of Scotch on JF. The purer the better according to them.

They are not only recounting personal preference, but recommending
others follow suit.

By the logic seen in this thread, those people should be roundly
condemned by the "arbiters of all that is right" for recommending
heinous self harm. Seemingly, drinking poison is fine though.

goose, gander and all that.

Keep in mind that as cars age, the water resistance of plugs, connectors and electrical components degrades. What might have been OK on a new engine might prove disastrous on an older one.

I thought the analogy was suggesting that fluids be reserved for the appropriate orifices. Just as water should only go in the cooling system fill point, it would be a true waste to pour Scotch of any type over one's head.
