X300 4.0 Sovereign Engine problem (idle/running)
Hello.
Sorry in advance if my english is bad. (Norwegian)
I had a issue with my Jaguar in April/May where the engine started to stall.
It have been in workshop ever since because they couldnt manage to find the faultcodes.. the engine couldnt idle at all before it stalled..
The workshop changed the sparkplugs, and cleaned the trottle body, but there was still some small misfire issue I cannot find.
I had to pay £700 for that small shitty service (Its been there for almost 4 months!)
I replaced the crank sensor today. and I replaced all coils last year.
when my car idles, it feels like it misfires on one cylinder sometimes..
does anyone know where I can begin searching?
I dont have any fault code reader. and the workshop didnt have the proper equipment.. I'm getting pretty upset about it..
Any help will be appreciated.
thanks,
Thorbjørn
Edit: and also do I have to fear that my car will stall again?

Replacing the coils may not have ended the coil issue. There are a lot of poor quality coils on the market. Look at the thread below:

Are those bad ones?

I don't know anything about those coils, but I have learned from the forum posts that an occasional misfire is not unusual from a coil that is failing, and it may not cause a code.
One test that has been suggested is to remove the coil cover and run the engine in a dark place, watching for arcing.

I have no "Check Engine" light. I checked the plugs after it were running today. and mostly every plug smelled petrol. they were not wet nor dry.. I dont know how to explain...
EDIT:
The plugs are from BOSCH, are there any plugs to recommend?

Checked now. and it was four coils that were making a light party..
2 in front. making alot of light. and the two closest to the firewall. making some light.
the two in the middle was not making any sign of lighting at all.

The rule of thumb seems to be if they were were £60 or more each and they say "Made in Japan" in white letters on a black sticker, you probably got good ones. Otherwise you got bad ones.
Many reputable outlets have been selling the bad ones. I got three from SNG Barratt, but they were good enough to refund me when they died six months later. The ones currently sold by British Parts are £24, so I don't have high hopes.
