Hi all, I was suddenly hospitalized for 5 weeks and my son-in-law offered to jump the battery in my 97 XJ6. However, the battery is in the trunk and there is no power to open the trunk. I saw a few videos on utube where there may be a terminal under the front hood that will help power the trunk open. Can someone please offer some advice on how to accomplish getting into the trunk? Even the key did not work. Always appreciate the help and knowledge from everyone! Love my jag! Thank you, Dee
Hi
This happened to me 2 days ago, stupidly I thought the trunk key was electrical, but it’s not it’s just seized.
This is how I solved it.
Open the hood, left side is a small fuse box. Nearest row of fuses ie left very first fuse( at least on mine) from the front , 15 Amp fuse, take it out, put power from another batt on to the contact furthest from you. This is connected to live. Only need light weight cable, touch negative to any earth, and the positive to this contact. You will need a blade or small screwdriver to push down to the fuse contact which is below the surface of the holder. As soon as I did the car beeped and the keyswich worked and unlocked all.
Then taking advice, I am stripping the lock mechanism which is jammed, Hope it won’t happen again.

My battery is disconnected and the boot/trunk is closed and the key wont' open it. So I'm in the same boat pretty much. I can try to connect a battery to a fuse terminal as suggested. I was originally planning to attach the positive terminal of a battery to this positive terminal in the engine bay (see highlight in photo) and the other to earth, in the hope this will provide power so I can use the electric button to open the boot. Does anybody know if this would be a bad thing to do, or tried this to provide power when the battery is disconnected? Cheers, Richard.
Hi
Ill try and say something useful! Are you sure that’s a Positive you indicate, if it is then that should be fine. As soon as you get power to the car, albeit a roundabout way, you should be able to unlock the car, then operate trunk lock, or if not locked open the trunk the normal way. You won’t need to take the terminal off but it looks to me as if it is an Earth. All I know is as I described above and that worked fine with a light cable going to my other car. The fuse box is easy to get at, all you have to establish is which side of the fuse is live. I put a meter on ( I needed to use a blade crimp or something to push into the fuse holder, as it is recessed) Although the battery was completely flat, I still got a very low reading on the live side but nothing on the other, obviously.
Hope this helps

I used your method to get in and it worked a treat. I now need to give some attention to the boot/trunk key mechanism, and fix my cooling fan which won't turn off (which is why I disconnected the battery in the first place). Cheers, Richard.
Oh good, thats Great, but I’ve not done too well with releasing the lock mechanism. Taken it all apart but key will not turn 90' that I’m told it should do. It could be the wrong key, it may have been changed and the key not passed on to me. Got a bit of work to do on that yet.
