Where should I look for if I want to find an OBD2 scanner that can real everything on the car. The dealer in my country said that they can only read 2002 and up. Mine is a 95 with VIN: SAJJPALG4BJ770087

Probably not. Why don’t you get an obd2 scanner like Nexas and then pair it with obd fusion app on your phone?

I have a 1995 xj6 4.0 and it reads codes and fuel trim.

I have ordered a regular obd scanner but I would still need some scanner that can read faults with the abs and future issues that might arise.

And there's your problem... you'll need something designed for JLR to pull the ABS and transmission codes.

I think I also missed the Genrad 500, 510, handheld reader. There's was one recently on eBay for crazy money. He wanted like $750 for it. At that point, I would recommend the VCM setup over that!

The mongoose should do what you need, but do not settle for the clones. They tend not to work for very long. I believe the VCM setup is probably what you should invest in. I'll wait for others to chime in with their experience.

VCM seems the cheapest/easiest it's a 30$ cable and pirated ford software. All the other ones are uber expensive dealership all in one pieces of hardware.

The Ford software will not work with a Jaguar.
The same passthrough devise but different software for Jaguar, Ford, Mazda, etc,

Thanks bob looks like I would need IDS 118.5 on an XP sp2 or 3 correct?

That should work with the knock off VCM cables correct?

Proceed with knockoff at your own risk. They do not last, and if they go belly up while you're in process of doing something, it could render your ECU useless.

it would be a real challenge to brick one of these cars

either way that mini vcm won’t work.

you need a gna600, a rotunda vcm or a clone of it. period

I have 2 Rotunda VCMs. (one is Mazda and the other an old Ford unit)
I also have 3 WDS Genrad 3500 PTUs with one docking station.

The WDS will work on Jaguars to 2006 but running a Pentium I 233mhz with Windows 98 will test your patience.

I run the Rotunda VCMs on DELL C640 XP PRO laptops with IDS 118.5.

Rumor has it that WINDOWS 7 32 bit will also work.

The VCMs were easier to find several years ago when all the Ford, Jaguar, Mazda dealers were moving on to better/newer interfaces.
Lots of used VCMs dumped on the used market (eBay?) a decade ago.

I still use my WDS when I am 'not-in-a-hurry'.

There's only one rotunda vcm for sale and it's in the US. With shipping importing customs finding an old laptop it seems easier and cheaper to just throw some parts at the car if any issues come up. Maybe I'll find some local ford repair shop that has a vcm.

You would need to make sure you purchased the Jaguar Expansion pack for AutoEnginuity. I'm not sure anyone has confirmed that it will work to reset TPS, but it should pull all Jaguar specific codes.

The two cables (in and out) are required for the interface to work.(useless without them)

Perhaps a better question is what do you want to do? 1995 was only a part OBDII implementation, so not everything works the way it would on a fully compliant car.
