Gear change points

Gear change points
Can someone direct me to somewhere that will indicate the approximate revs the auto gearbox in a 1994/5 X300 will change gear?
I ask because if I simply put the pedal to the metal the engine takes off and seems to change at about 6000+ rpm, my problem is that I always run out of road/courage to keep the pedal to the floor and see where later changes take place. Bear in mind we have a blanket 70 mph speed limit in the UK and while I am sort of OK with breaking the limit not to the extent I'd need to to see what the changes are after the initial kickdown and subsequent change.
If I'm honest I worry about the poor old dear objecting to such treatment and blowing something
Anyway I'd be curious as to where the change points are.

Being in the UK, is yours a 3.2ltr.
The USA never got that engine.
My 3.2 is redline a 6000, coz its a better engine for revs than the 4ltr, more "square".
It pulls 6000 if I stomp on it, without complaint, but with 110KPH fiercely enforced, I behave myself mostly.
Break something, ITS A JAGUAR, you must have FAITH.

Thanks Grant. I will hold the faith. My attitude is that the engine must have been built to do it so let it rip But sadly only in short bursts I'd have thought there must hundreds of miles of straight roads near you they can't patrol - no? We are a small country and have zillions of cameras.

I've taken mine up to 100 mph very briefly on a clear road. In the good old days when I had to drive to Edinburgh I had a Citreon CX 2.5l turbo and we did 120 when we could. Of course after a while you become used to that speed and I came off the motorway onto a road I didn't know, it was still something like 6am and clear so I was still going 'quite fast' and hit the first of the well known undulations in this road. Briefly we went airborne. It was a strong car thankfully. I slowed down. Young and stupid. I'm not young any more.

I have heard the 3.2 litre revs to 6000rpm. The shorter stroke would make that possible and desirable. My 4 litre sport revs to 5,500 in sport mode for each change up. If I put her in 2nd she will get 70 quite rapidly then bounce off the rev limiter at 5600 or so. Best to remember to move the leaver to 3rd just before that happens.
On a dual carriage way at 70mph flooring her in sport it kicks down to 3rd rapidly taking you to 120 I think then kicking into top and getting to 130mph before I was going so fast the road was not long enough. She had not stopped accelerating, still going pretty strong since the revs were in the power.
I hope if I crashed the police would be good enough to smash the dashboard and move the rev counter to 6200 rpm and the speedo to 162mph as is customary when they want to get you for speeding. The Daily Mail could then claim my *wheels* were spinning at 6200 rpm!

If you take it to 6000rpm the engine does not mind what speed the car is going. It should be fine. Just find a decent bit of road when there is not much traffic and no cameras and just floor it in sport mode. You will be rewarded. These cars seem to accelerate faster when they are going fast than they do from standstill.

No sport mode here, mine is the base model. It's a little frustrating that it's not hot off the standing start but it's heavy so static momentum would be against it. Anyway I shouldn't really play silly beggars although I do recall you guys repeatedly saying drive it like you stole it.
I only meant to keep the Jag for 6 months for my daughter's wedding but it's such a nice drive. It's 2 1/2 years now and as it passed it's MOT test I have another 12 months of fun in prospect. It only cost £800 so it owes me nothing in terms of cash. I am gently investing in parts now, picking up my bargain front shocks tomorrow.

No sport mode is interesting. I am pretty sure it's just a switch which tels the transmission computer what's wanted. What engine is yours? They use different transmission on the 3.2 model. They are amazing cars to drive since you don't have to drive it like you stole it to be going fast. They are so smooth your passengers don't think you're going fast. You can drive in a relaxed way and if you need a bit of acceleration to position yourself in a clean space of road it's there without trying. You know the usual problem, you are joining the motorway which is doing 70 and the car in front is doing 60 and planning on going slower still. In the Jag you can just waft past before he involves you in his attempted accident.

No, LSD diff either, or Traction Control.
They have a Non-electronic 4HP22 ZF transmission, and cable kickdown.
Sooooooo simple, nothing to go wrong.

Grant has summed my Jag up nicely and also why, given that I buy older cars, I tend to end up with base models without all the bits that go wrong. I learned the hard way with a Ford Granada, those bells and whistles wear out. The Citreon CX was a mess when it left the factory but what a car.
