Good list.
I am amazed the mighty X300 is such a troublesome car, mines not. Maybe its the maintenance, or lack of, OOPS. |
No-one posts to say their car started first time :)
|
OH.
I'll start. ALL mine do, and always have, once my maintenance after purchase is completed, and that is usually within the first week. The only mongrel was the X300 (BUGGA), which drove home fine, and 15 minutes later failed to start, so the XJ-S was the chariot of choice to take Madam for dinner. Turned out to be the Crank Angle Sensor, and smack on 160000kms (100000miles). Took all of 10 minutes to fix at about midnight, after dinner. |
But why so many and all at the same time? I too was a victim just last Monday. This can't be a coincidence. Got mine back from my trusted Jag tech. Problems were, aftermarket coil packs, blown fuses and corroded ECM connector.

Corroded ECU connectors do also seem to come up, and that begs the question is there any preventative maintenance (like opening up and using dielectric grease on seal) to help with this? BTW, where is it? . |

Well, the replacement coils do seem to be a recurring Achilles heel... so that pops up a lot.

I just went out and started my 1997 XJ6L and it still ran fine.
I have 2 X308 sedans, 1 X300, several VWs and a Chevy Pick-up so I don't drive many of them often. (My 1986 Ford Diesel Tractor ALWAYS starts) I seem to always need to replace dead batteries. Just thought I would share some GOOD news instead of complaining about my cars that DON"T start. bob gauff |
The corroded ecu seems to be from water ingress. No grease is going to fix a connector that gets damp regularly- The sunroof drains have been blamed for the water problem, and considering the recent rash of reports, I wonder in an end of life event is occurring with them.

going through hell with my x300 at the moment, first key turn no cranking just lights on the dash, turn the key back and try again the car cranks but no starting, sometimes the rev counter reads 200rpm sometimes nothing on the revs, this morning started first time fine, filled up with petrol at the garage then wouldn't start, tried for about 10 times then it finally fired up,showing the petrol light on and fuel guage empty(just filled to brime),spooky, got to work 5 miles and turned the car off ,tried to start and it fired up first time showing a full tank of fuel weird, just changed the crank position sensor so will see if this cures it,beautiful car but really starting to test me lol

Welcome to the forum colin124. The battery or connections could also be at fault. Check the voltage both before and during cranking.
|
thanks i will ,started fine on the way home but fuel light came on and fuel guage read empty and slowly over the journey home (5 miles) started to rise to full, and fuel light went out,its definatly something electrical just dont knowif its a dodgy earth somewhere or something packing up,might have to get an auto electrician to look at it as im starting to pull my hair out ,thanks for the reply colin

How old is your battery?
|
the battery is brand new, reading a lot of posts about water getting into the ecu,i think my next move is to at least have a look at the connections, used the car this morning started first time and ran fine to work, strang car lol

I have uploaded HUNDREDS of TSBs to the large file area.
There is a wealth of info. Here is a TSB you need to read. bob gauff |
Hmmm....either the forum has changed and put a time-limit on posts for edit...or I've mistakenly thrown a switch somewhere...can't seem to edit the original post anymore...so here we go:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ession-125018/ Well, this explains it: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/j...t-post-124489/ There is a 30 min. time limit. Makes it impossible going forward to make useful compilations of similar-issues like in Post #1 above...but as Graham says, they have their good and proper reasons. |
This one won't be much help to you, except perhaps to give you hope to go out there and reset everything and "give 'er one mo' try!"

i dont see my no start thread here but mine did start, it was a corroded ECU terminal.
|
copy URL and paste it in here! As I said in Post#1, the original list was what I culled out of the first 200 hits on a "start" search. (There were over 500) After that, when I'd see a new one pop up, I would edit it to the top of the original list. Then the mods came along and put a 30 min time-limit on edits so I couldn't do that anymore; Now I just plink 'em in here as a next post, so feel free to add.
