Im having some difficulty connecting the handbrake cable to the hub, theres a white plastic clip that connects a spigot from the brake back plate to the new cable, the groove in the clip is 3mm but the cable and spigot combined is 4mm ish . No way there both going to fit in the groove, I'm starting to think I have the wrong cable but ive checked and theres isn't another number for the X300 , anyone else had this issue?
Yes I have vague memories of having the same issue when rebuilding the rear brakes on my car after a catastrophic failure that mangled a lot of components. I had the same thought that I had been sold the wrong cables. I think also that if the cable and spigot go together then the overall length of the RH and LH cables was too short to reach the centre cable.
My conclusion was (and I don't know if it's right) that the spigot on the backplate and the cable don't go together. I built mine with the white clip just on the handbrake cable and stopping it pulling through the hub carrier - see picture. It worked well for years before I sold the car.
Thats helpful I have the whole of the rear suspension out so I can check the cable length easily. In your image the spigot appears to be missing like mine. I have acquired a pretty rusty spigot of an old back plate and the lip is about 1mm , I've also seen images of the genuine Jag cable can't be sure but the end does look thinner, Im going to modify mine if the length is ok and i will need to make the spigots !! I will post my results on here.
I have ended up making 2 bosses as mine are missing, i managed to acquire a really corroded one to get the height 30mm with an 18mm spigot 1mm thick , the rest I made to miss the hub and 2 6.5mm fixing holes 68mm centres .
I then discovered the cable end is too thick for the plastic clip and needed to be 2mm not 3mm , Im not sure if the original cable is correct but the one I have is an after market part. Anyhow took a mm off it in the lathe which allows the clip to fit, I am going to finish off the IRS now and will see if there are any issues with the length.
