Default Help! Rattling/noisy sound from engine (Xj6 -95)

Hello everyone!

I have been driving a Jaguar for the last 1,5 y. I know nothing about cars. I love my Jaguar but 2-3 days ago the engine started to rattle and other noisy sounds comes from it.

I will take to a repair shop today but could someone please, with just a little help from this video, maybe hear where this sound(s) possibly comes from?

Thanks in advance!

OK, Google says you be in Sweden?

That sounds a lot like a fan belt delaminating. Not sure of your market specs, we have one belt for water pump/alternator. Another belt for A/C, but thats on the RH side, you are on the LH side.

My ears are old, like me, but thats the sound I am picking.

Its a bit "tappety", so maybe in need of an oil change?

Perhaps the waterpump bearing. Any leak there?
It is the highest belt-driven thing on the left side of the engine. Or the alternator bearing, just below the waterpump.

I'll bet a Swedish Kroner that it is the A/C clutch and or idler pulley? Take one drive belt off at a time until it goes away. Or does the crank pulley wobble?

Thank you.

Thanks! Much appreciated. Yes I’m in Sweden. I went to a repair shop with the car yesterday. He kind of quickly told me it was the AC belt and the compressor?

I think something like this; https://www.motordoctor.se/products/...-ac-kompressor ?

But the guy told me was hard to find that spare part and that it was important that it was the exactly the right one to fit the car? Do you guys know any place where I might find the right one?

I will change the oil and oil filter as well! Hopefully it will sound a little better after that..

Thanks! If I think about the right one it didn’t wobble but you a little bit loose.

He will try to take of the AC belt but if he does and the sound goes away - can you drive the car if it’s gone without damaging the car or anything?

OK good so far.

The A/C belt is nothing special at all. 4PK1035 is the standard generic belt.

The Idler pulley, main noise in these, is equally nothing special. 89017 is the number for that pulley.
A Google search should find them in your area without issues.

The A/C compressor is not that special. A simple side mount unit, and readily available outside the Dealer Network. We have many aftermarket suppliers and I always use them with no issues.

Take the A/C belt off, drive the car as normal, only thing that will not work is the A/C, easy.
