How do I change odometer to read miles instead of kilometres?
Hi all, I've been playing around with the buttons in the pictures attached, as my car currently reads in kilometres but I'd like this to be converted into miles and for it to continue recording mileage in miles. From the buttons it looks like it 'might' be possible but I've no idea how to do it. Do any of you know?
are you sure it is in km and not in miles?
that switch is the correct switch.
if it is anything like mine was the microswitch is gunked up. possibly broken.
what you need to do is take out an clean the PCB where the KM/Miles switch is.
get some isopropl alcohol, and a toothbrush or similar and give it a spray and brush. back and front of the PCB.
it could be gunk inside the microswitch causing it to make poor contact like mine or it could be broke.
i sprayed mine well, let it sit a bit, gave it a scrub, repeated a few times.
then it started working.
i did find however that the switch is still slightly worn as if i do switch it to miles then sometimes when i switch it back to KM it doesn't work and i need to flick the switch a few times.
i am in aus and wanted mine to read KM but when i got my car it was stuck on miles.
i knew this from the avg fuel usage reading.
L/100
v
Miles per gallon.
a lower reading in L/100 is better and a higher reading in MPG is better.
i noticed as when i was driving on the freeway the fuel usage was going up which led me to realise it was in MPG.
fun fact, 15.3 MPG and 15.3 L/100 is where the two meet and have the same fuel economy metric. (15.33 ~ 15.34 to be precise)

Yes, sure the car is currently showing KM not miles. It should be about 28,000 miles give or take.
I don't think the switch is gunked up. The car is a very low mileage one from Japan. Are you talking about the small switch that goes up or down and shows Km or Miles on the left of the switch?
Should it just change from Km to Miles by flicking that switch with the key turned, engine not running/ignition not on? No need to do anything else?
Om my car, which is an imported British spec car, the odometer reads in miles regardless of the position of the km/miles switch.
The switch changes all other readings except the odometer which is annoying as I would like to change it to read in kms as here in Australia we’ve been using metric units for ages.
At least my speedometer has a dual miles/kilometres scale on it.
Might I refer all to the "Drivers Handbook" page 62-64.
I believe that in line with this section, the Km-Miles switch refers only to the "Trip Computer".
John
You are correct. My 96 Australian delivered X300 has speed and distance odometer in kilometers and the KM-Miles switch only changes the trip computer readout

I was wrestling with removing the front bumper bar on my MK 2 today. I had forgotten the need to unbolt the outboard bumper bar support brackets.
I have owned and restored/resurrected 10 examples of MK1/2s but had forgotten this basic thing.
Age sucks

Thanks for clarifying John! That makes more sense. Pity my Driver's Handbook is in Japanese, my kanji is a bit rusty
