Default New Paint

I'm getting my car painted in about a month and was wondering about replacing rubber items. The person doing my car said to definitely do the seal around the sunroof and maybe the boot/trunk rubber. I'm also doing a new windshield. What other things that aren't outrageous should i be thinking about. I'm also changing the headlights to the X308's. He found a used pair for $325. I'm keeping the same color. All the mechanical stuff has been fixed. I drove from Boston to Quebec City a couple of weeks ago and it ran very well. I got it up to 100, but there were too many revenue collectors on the montreal to QC road. What a waste. The only other things not working are the seat heaters, although all the buttons light up, the memory on the seats and the steering column.

Unlike some of the more talented people out there, I'm paying to have my car painted and like an old house there was more rust than I thought. I'm also putting a new windshield in and upgrading to the 98 halogen headlights. I know I'm spending more than its worth, but we've had it since 1999.............

Hello, looks like you are already into the prep work. Good luck with the paint and post some pictures when it is done. I am planning to paint my 96 X300 also in about two months, mine is starting show some peeling on the clear coat. I am interested in how you managed to get the windshield and the rubber parts, did you order from the dealer or online ? My windshield has some stone chips and would like to get that replaced also.

I live in Massachusetts and am having it done at Louis Restoration in Salem Ma, The windshield had a crack and it was the original so it had a lot of pitting as well. Glass is covered under comprehensive insurance for glass, so the installer takes care of the gasket as well. I did buy a new sunroof gasket and got this at the dealer. Even though they are relatively expensive they are available.Other miscellaneous parts that could be bought used came from Coventry West. Attached is the car ready for paint

Please keep us posted on the progress.

The color is Jade Pearl Green (HEV). The last picture with car in plastic is from Saturday, now they are putting it back together and doing the little pieces.

In the last photo, it looks great. Color is very nice and distinctive. Seeing the first photos, I started to worry that it would not come back together again :-)
Have you done anything underneath?
I see in the background some other nice cars. Is it a restoration specialist workshop?

I did not do anywhere near what you did underneath, although he did spray on a rust inhibitor in some places. Should be done this week. They do restorations, mostly old VW's and Porsches and he has worked on my car ever since it went off warranty

That's a great looking color. Nice job. I'm in Rhode Island and I'd love to know where this place is in Salem. I may be needing a paint job on my '92 XJ6 in the future...

Thanks,
Nick

It doesn't matter that you are spending more that it is worth. You like the car is what that matters. Had my 95 for 11 years and never want to trade it off. My paint is still good overall but spots need a redo like the bumpers. I also need to redo the front seats which will happen this summer. My wife has given me a blank check where the car is concerned. She wants it like new again.

Have fun with your "new" X300.

Its almost done. He called me last night cause he didn't want to put the old trim back on the trunk/boot, it looked too good. I said ok. I wish there was a badge delete, like on my BMW, but what's an X300 without all the chrome

Default This Week?

I think we have all the trim and final assembly is going well. From the picture you can see the headlight upgrade which I am really looking forward to along with the new windshield.

Default Snow Tires

In order to protect my new paint I bought new snow tires. I had used Blizzaks for a few years and then switched to all seasons. I bought Goodyear Eagle Ultra Grips last Friday and forgot how good this car is in the snow. The difference between all seasons and these is amazing especially with what we have had in Boston. Now I have to buy an extra set of wheels in the spring.

really? These do well in the snow? Would you say the XJ6 with snow tires is as able in the snow and ice as modern FWD car?
