Default OK, I started replacing the valve cover gasket....

As I stated,
I finally received all 26 gaskets for the valve cover or
Camshaft cover to be more specific.
Paint was flaking off, without effort.
After putting this in a parts washer (a friend at a dealership).
I noticed that the inside of the cover has a coating on it - that's new to me.

Now I am not complaining, but I have been messing with,
fixing and restoring cars from M-Benz to Chevy's.
But the quality of the cover casting, even after 29 years,
is not what I expected for a Jaguar. It should be higher - It is a Jaguar.
The valve cover I got from the wrecking yard was actually
corroded through after it was stripped down - once again new to me.

Does the inside have to be coated?
If so, with what?
Did it seal and help with oil run off?
I know people that have done that in their engine, but not a valve cover.

The valve cover is magnesium , magnesium was chosen to quite the valve noise as they are a very aggressive/ high lift profile

The porous metal will have absorbed the solvent effecting future coating adhesion and will have to be baked off

Watch for the seal to fall out of place on the rear edge , run your finger along the rear edge before clamping down

You might put some high temp sealant in the corners of the Ds on the rear edge of the gasket , not old school black " form a gasket "

There is a TSB on installation

03.1-08 (jagrepair.com)

Some high temp sealant would not be a bad idea in the coil well seats for the 6 / O - rings as long as not too much , graining surface

You may find something useful in here: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ispreloading=1

8 years on, I have a bubble or two showing up on the exterior of the powder-coated one. POR-15 looks same-as day of refinish, but to be fair, that car has just sat around the shop, being started occasionally to insure it still goes, whereas the powder-coated version has logged about 80k miles, give or take, since refurbishment.
