I've got an XJ12, but figure the traffic over here is better than the X305 forum. I've very likely got the dreaded 4L80E harness stretch, with intermittent simultaneous codes for solenoid A and B. The valve body and solenoids were replaced first, since they're readily available, but still getting random trans light and limp mode.
As we all know, new harnesses are long gone from the supply chain. It looks like there are two options: a) get a GM standard internal harness and the readily available external GM connector/pigtail and splice it into the Jag's transmission harness or b)replacing lengths of wire to reduce strain and then re-solder the Jag harness into the old connector.
I would love to do A, but haven't seen definitively that the plugs between the two standards are the same size. Has anyone put the internal GM connector into their trans? I'd love to hear about it before dropping the pan and fluid and finding out. If you've done B, how did you work the connector? Can you de-pin it for easy access, or do you just send a ton of solder down into a black hole? Does anyone have a recommendation for electrical harness rebuilders that aren't Rhode Island Wiring, who was the internet's favorite but just closed down?
Another TSB coming , can't find it as it describes the transmission's behavior
Your wiring guide for your X305 is linked below , more accurate than a GM wiring guide I'm currently refering to on a smaller GM60 shifting issue
The transmission section in the guide is near the front just after the engine section
There was someone who did not get fully engaged connector on the transmission ECU located under the dash fwd of the glove compartment , it is a long ribbon connector and the pin map can be found in the very early pages of the wiring guide , the pin map with wire colors is oriented as facing the module so use miiror image to look at the connector view , this is an example I made
On the inline 6 , the ECU is a Bosch or TRW manufacture
If you’re having issues with the internal harness, there was someone on eBay selling replacements with the appropriate Jag connector. I bought one for my XJR as someone had been into the harness previously, as I unfortunately discovered while dropping the valve body on my trans. Item # is 113707525608 if you decide to search in the future. I was lucky and able to locate a used external harness on eBay as well. What I did before I reconnected everything was to pull slack from the harness near the shifter inside the car in hopes of not having future issues. I saved the original in case I ever need any pieces/parts and the wires were definitely beginning to fail.
As far as I know the internal harness is fine, it’s just that if it was possible to use the GM harness, then you’re not locked into using the unobtanium jag external harness.
The pin release tool is called ..............
The pin insertion tool is called.................
Both very common As I used them in the airlines , versions made of plastic called footballs but can be cofused with the end of the full size metal with a definite small football on the plunger hand / palm contact
