Default secondary air pump problem

been getting this code P0411
the check valve is working and if B+ is applied to the two terminals where the two blk/wt wires go the secondary air pump runs and pumps air.

The 25amp fuse in the r frnt fuse box #7 is good and there is B+ there

I have no B+ at the brn/or wire at the relay .I beleive this should have B+ all the time
If I remove the relay and apply battery voltage to the wt/blk wire on the out put of the relay terminal the pump runs.

I tried to access the TSBS that are posted on the forum but have not had any luck opening them.
Either I do not have that priveledge as yet or there was an error message on the Adobe reader.

At any rate I need a schematic so I can find out why I have no power to the relay and then I can go about seeing if the pcm energizes the relay coil on a cold start. Also if someone can email me a schematic that would be great I have one from snap-on but I am hoping for a factory one . I bought a repair cd but for the moment it has gone missing

Thank you for any assistance

hey time, I am also from Florida, in Fort Lauderdale.... I have the same problem as you, I get the same code from time to time... A local jag specialist and other jag mechanics have told me that its something in the wiring that is loose or broken off. They said its not worth the time or money to fix as it does not hurt the performance of the car. Only annoying part is that the check engine light will pop up from time to time. Sometimes it will come on in a week after I clear the code, sometimes it takes 6 months, but luckily I have a obd ll scanner to check and clear the codes But I wouldnt worry about this code unless you want to throw money out the window.

The only issue I see is if you have emission in your area, like me.....

I have the same problem and not worth my time diggin in to it since it only happens every couple months and i too clear it. And we have emmissions insp too, but as long as the light isnt on and the monitors have reset youre fine(you can clear light and go to the state insp station until the monitors reset

Default secondary air pump problem solved

There is a black terminal connector below the right side engine bay relay bank there is a brown orange wire that comes from the number 7 25amp fuse in the right side engine bay fuse box . There was a bad connection there . The terminals were looking pretty bad on that pin only so I cleaned up the other terminals with contact cleaner ran a new wire to the out put side of the terminal which then provides battery positive to the relay.

Took of the out put hose at the air pump and started her up and and the pump blows like a mo fo.
Buttoned it up cleared the code and good to go

Default this is a good fix

OK this car 1996 vanden plas 4.0 aj16 with a recurring P0411 secondary air flow code . The air pump was inoperabe. Removed the secondary air pump relay and checked for battery voltage at pin 1 of the relay
No voltage.
Checked for battery voltage at fuse 7 rh engine bay fuse box battery voltage present.
Voltage drop across the brown orange wire at the black terminal connection lower left of the relays to the right side of the radiator looking from right fender.
clean terminal contacts or run a new wire .

Two hundred miles later no return of code .

If your car has this problem P0411 it is worth it to check this out if you have battery voltage at the relay then you may have another problem i.e. the check valve or pump but if you dont have battery voltage at the relay this could very well solve your problem.

Install the new pump, replace the fuse, check the hose and go on with your lives.

Hi,
Im trying to diagnose my air pump error (code P0411) and the F7 fuse blows every time I change it. Im trying to follow the electrical wiring from the air pump and do not know where it goes. Where is the relay connected? Could a bad pump cause the fuse to blow?
Thanks!

Im looking at a wiring schematic for my car and there is a secondary Air Injection Relay that connects to the air pump. Anyone know where thats located?
Thanks!
