Generally, when I buy a car, it gets an oil and filter change, air filter and fuel filter, gearbox oil / transmission fliud + filter change. I have changed brake fliuds but not necessarily as routin, more because I replace hoses and thought I'd go the whole hog. Clean MAF sensor wire. Tyre pressures checked monthly?
The thing with my cars is that they are over 10 years old, the XJR and a Saab 9-5 aero. Some things should actually be carried out more regularly than the original service schedule suggested on the Saab, eg 6000mile oil and filter change instead of 12000mile. I regularly rely on an MOT test to highlight work that needs done but with driving, and feeling and listening for abnormalities, visual inspection of tyres and fluid levels and belt squeek/condition usually gives me enough work. That said I'm £300 lighter today having to fit 4 tyres to the Saab because alignment was off. There are the odd grease nipples on the Jag which should be maintained as are wheel bearings. If you've some free time, work your way through the schedule and get up to date on it. Some jobs on the Jag (fuel filter change springs to mind) can take up a lot of time and money.

Me? A trans oil change every 15k miles, tire rotation every 10k miles, oil change every 5k miles.
I do a major service every 30k miles which includes, in addition to the above: change differential oil, repack bearings, replace fuel filter, replace spark plugs, clean MAF, replace coolant, replace brake fluid, lube u-joints, change supercharger oil.
I wouldn't normally change trans oil every 15k miles but my car has a transmission drain plug so it's exceptionally easy to just drain the pan and replace the 4 quarts that comes out...thus perpetually keeping the oil sweet, if you know what I mean. It's not the same as a professional "fluid flush".
The air filter is replaced only "as needed".
Cheers
