sporty sounds modifications?
Are there well-known, safe, modifications that can be made to an X300 to make it sound sportier? Note the word "sound". I am not trying to increase performance, just my sense of entertainment. I already appreciate the sounds of the I-6 from normal daily rev ranges below 3.5k, and the combined sounds of all the systems winding down after one turns the car off is also charming. When I had my XKR and 911 exhausts changed, it did increase my sense of entertainment so hoping to do same with 1997 X300 base that is kept in top running condition.
1. Mufflers or exhaust modification?
2. Intake modification
(searching this site is, um, laborious...)

I would guess remove the air filter box and replace with a pod filter (NOT an oiled filter as this will gum up throttle body/MAF).
Not done it myself as I like the quite power, but try google search’s like this

I had a set of Magnaflows on my '93 300ZX. They droned on the freeway at cruising speeds. Even worse, every punk kid in a ricer tried to race me at stoplights. I've got Flowmasters on my Mustang GT and they sound real good at idle and with the pedal down. No droning at any freeway speed. Back in the day I had a righteous set of old glasspacks on my '66 Riviera with a Nailhead 425 engine. Wow! did that thing sound fantastic! I won't get started on my Harley riding days. I know I'm getting old because I now prefer a nice quiet car like my two Jags.
