Transmission fail light
97 XJ6 transmission fail light came on with two codes. B30F4,B13BO. They are not in automatic transmission section of the manual nor anywhere else I can find. I can put the light out but it comes back on. Any ideas? Arch
Hi Arch,
I dont find those codes either - one of the more complete X300 code lists I know of is here:
Generic and Jaguar specific OBD-II Diagnostic Trouble Codes
Since your fault codes are so odd, they may represent some sort of implausible signal received by the ECM or/and TCM. It might be worth cleaning the grounds used by the ECM (ground studs on the bulkhead and front left fender, I think) and TCM (a stud on the center console).
When your transmission warning lamp illuminates, does the transmission lock in 3rd gear (Limp Home Mode)? If so, a common cause of LHM is contamination of the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) or its electrical connector.
Cheers,
Don
What are you using to read the Trans codes?
Invalid / gibberish codes can result from using a generic code reader that doesn't fully understand the protocol / interface to the module.

Thanks for the input. I'll clean the grounds. I used the OBD-II scan tool to clear the transmission fail light. Check Engine light never came on. Fluid and filter was changed 3000 miles ago, the pan was clean. There's no leaks, shifts good and doesn't go into Limp Home Mode. Thx Arch
