Default Using Gasohol in X300/XJR

I am just about to buy a 1996 XJR, all being well! My problem is the scarceness of 95 octane petrol here in Thailand. Does anyone know for sure whether the XJR will safely run on Gasohol 95 (90% 95 octane petrol with 10% ethanol)?

Alternatively, I might have to consider an X300 (normally aspirated, 4.0 litre), can that be run safely on gasohol?

I have tried a search but no results, does anyone know?

Thanks.

My XJR has been running fine on E10 fuel for years.

That's good to hear.

Is there an official Jaguar recommendation, do you know?

In the owners manual Jaguar states that E10 is OK to use.

As for octane, what rating system is Thailand on? There are two or three different ones.

Cheers

Thanks, Doug, that's what I needed to know.

Don't know what rating system is used here all I know is I have a choice of Shell 95 petrol very occasionally if I'm lucky, 91 petrol, 91 gasohol or 95 gasohol. Whatever the rating system I'll have to use Shell 95 or gasohol 95.

Hi! Glad to see other from Thailand. Gasohol 95 can be used for AJ16 engine. I fill mine since it introduce without any problem. I also ask AAS and they confirmed that it could be used.

Cheers

You Thai gasoholics could consider mixing small amount of T-WC3 outboard engine oil in your petrol as discussed at length in this X300 forum somewhere.
The theory is the oil stops the ethanol drying out fuel pumps, rubber diaphragms in the fuel system etc.
I do it in NZ even though there is no ethanol in my fuel. I am lucky - I can buy 98 RON petrol which I think is shipped from Singapoer refineries.
I add about 2 mL outboard oil per litre petrol, ie about 120 mL for a 60 litre petrol fill-up

Thailand, like most of the world rates the octane level of it's gas/petrol by RON (Research Octane Number).

AFAIK, all Jaguars built from around 1990 onwards can use E10.

Is this serious, putting engine oil in the petrol? Doesn't that mess up the running of the engine?

Well, it's very small amounts and it isn't engine oil, per se. It's the very light oil designed to be mixed with fuel for 2-stroke engines.

Apparently some models suffer a higher than average rate of fuel pump failures. The theory is that this is being attributed to E10 gas and long periods of storage.

Some owners are using the outboard oil in extremely diluted ratios of ~500:1 as an experiment to see if it helps.

Yes, and no it does not "mess up the running of the engine". In fact, one of the benefits is a smoother idle. Almost turbine like.

Besides, the oil is a very pretty blue colour

I am in Thailand also. I fill up my 1996 x300 with Gasohal 95 for 10 year without any additive required. My jag is 140k km now without any problem and still run strong.

Just did 5 thousand k round trip in my XJR using 98 octane and 120 ml TC-W3 per tank
First time I have ever gotten more that 500 out of a tank one section nearly got 650 k,s to a tank and runs so sweet
came back home totally refreshed might do it again in a month she just purrs on the open road mostly cruise control took her up to 180k,s couple times overtaking a few cars at a time
I did notice after the first tank the back of the car had a blue film on it valve stem seals I think
but after the trip clean and running very sweetly and 120ML is nothing I was using 140ML went back to 120ml
