Smile Water temperature sensor connector

Hi there

Car: XJ6 1995 (December 1994 production)

Problem : I want to replace my water temperature sensor (on thermostat housing) and I got the new Jaguar part LNA 1600AA but the electrical connecting system is totally different. the old one is a short male/female connection. the new one is a much longer and differenr.

So 2 questions

1 - does anyone would have (new or used) a female connecting plug for the new sensor?

2 - Or eventually I can modify the old female connector to fit the new one but I do not knpw if there is a plus and a minus type thing on the male prongs of the sensor. I would hate to burn something by not making the right connection. can some one help here?

Thank you so much.

You have bought the wrong part. The part no. you stated is for X300 V12 not the straight 6.

Default Water temp sensor

Dear Brendan,

Thanks for your follow up on this but according to Jaguar Classic Parts this is the correct part number:

Genuine Jaguar Parts and Jaguar Accessories for Classic Jaguars

Thanks again

Default Sensor

Dear Doug

I am going to look for that part number now but I hasn't seen it before

Neverthemess after I installed it last night I quickly tried the car and all was the same as before and I parked the car for the night

This morning y=the battery was stone dead (almost new battery ! ! !) Do you think that this (wrong) sensor could have caused this?

As i said when it comes to car electricity/electronics I am a total ignorant

thanks for your help and wise comments

It's listed in the cooling system section on the same page as thermostats, thermostat housings, etc

Well, either the original sensor wasn't faulty or the new incorrect sensor results in the same or similar problem.

What problem are you trying to solve, by the way?

I can't see any relationship between the temp sensor, even an incorrect one, and a dead battery

Dear Doug,

It was a pure coincidence. Me neither I could not belive it but with electronics ? ? ?

I discovered the problem las night but now I have to try to fix it and this is another story in itself.

I fully recharged the battery and when dark last night I went to look at the car just in case there was something I had left on.

And if fact I discovered that (new provblem) all the dasboard lights, centarl console lights and top sunroof console were on just like if I had tirned the haedlights on (not the map lights nor the interior lights nor the back seat lights)

I turned the head lights on and off. Checked the dash dimmer. It worked with the headlights on as it should. But when turning off the head lights did not make the lights go off.

So I disconnected the battery to have a good battery today to try to trace the problem byt due to my total lack of knowledge in car electricity/electronic I do not have much hopes.

I will make a separate threda about it as well.

But your wise guidance is most welcomed.

Claude
