I washed and drove my neglected Daimler 6.
it has sat in the weather for 7 months, only covering about 100km in that time, as I use the XJR daily.

the XJR is going in for some attention, nothing major, just a good once-over with my very good mechanic Mark. I have driven the car hard for a year without major attention except me doing a couple of oil changes. So it needs a good check.

the Daimler is going to get some action... I did an oil change on it in April, so it’s all good to go - it also got new Michelin Primacy tyres at Christmas which really suit it.

Following the post above, I’ve done 50 miles in the Daimler today. It is so smooth and quiet after the rortiness of the manual XJR with its louder energy exhaust.

the Daimler is on brand new premium Michelin Primacy 225/60 x 16s and they really suit it. At 100-120km/h it feels like 80-90 and is very quiet.
i should sell the Daimler as it sits in the weather and gets minimal use. It is, however, just too good, and has all the gremlins ironed out in my first year of ownership.

My XJR has had a thorough once-over by my mechanic - new rear discs and pads (Bemba discs, redstuff pads), oil and coolant change.
A new fuel filter and regulator has cured its slightly hunting idle and occasional stall at low revs, and the long term fuel trims have dropped down from 10.3% to -2.3%
it also had fatigued throttle body springs (Apparently a known XJR6 issue) and wasn’t always dropping right down to idle with the accelerator pedal released - that has been temporarily cured with a makeshift stronger return spring which unfortunately is limiting max throttle opening to 50%. However the new springs are on their way from the UK and hopefully will get fitted in the next week or two

Had a mini session with my X300.

Swapped a seat memory unit to see if it fixes my mirrors but it didn't. So I have a spare... I am thinking my mirrors are a switch issue. The passenger side has the odd habit of sometimes rotating down to look at the ground. Not sure when but maybe when I lock with the remote.

While in there I thought I would clean my interior temperature fan since the thermostat seemed to not be working correct on the HVAC system and it needs that signal from the Interior temp sensor. How gross!!!! Seriously disgusting. Completely filled with soft grey dirt and dust and fluff. Cleaned it all out and the HVAC seems to be responsive now.

Lady P had sent me a CD changer since mine was inoperable. I plugged it in and got the same error as my other one. EE-01. So both of those units are probably good and I have something else going wrong either in the wiring or head unit.

I also did the low speed radiator fan on with key on modification. My car was an early one that had a low and high speed switch on the AC line to sense pressure. The mod is to make the fan come on low speed as soon as key is turned on so the fuse doesn't blow if the switch fails and the second switch tries to go high speed from stopped.

I simply slipped a u shaped piece of wire into the socket while it was unplugged and then plugged it back in. Same as the switch being closed all the time. Sure enough radiator fan comes on low as soon as key comes on.

Changed the plugs and belt on my BMW too!

Ok! Got both of mine open and ejected the 6 pack. Hooked the "new" one up and I got No Mag so slid a mag in with one cd and it graunched until it stopped and gave up...very crunchy sounding. Very very dirty inside. I did pull a 42nd st sound track out....Lady P yours?

The other one I hooked up and got no mag, put a mag in it with 3 cds and it started to play. WOW!! SO I played 2 tracks then went to advance to next and I got "Not conn" or something similar. DIs-connected and reconnected and doesn't recognize that it is even connected. So I am officially done with CD players. This was the last one in any of my cars (Except my 2010 Land Rover has one and a DVR).

But I think my CD circuitry is ok so that Bluetooth thru the CD does become an option. A2D-JAG97 Audio Streaming Adapter for 1986-97 Jaguar XJ and XK :: Bluetooth

Went to the salvage yard and got a smog air pump and some of the wiring harness and the wiring for the radiator fan switch as it comes off the ac pressure switch.

Modified the ac pressure switch wiring to jumper the harness so fan comes on all the time. Now I can switch back and forth if I ever wanted to. All looks OEM.

Pulled my old smog pump which had failed and melted part of the plug and spliced in new wiring. Mounted new plug, pump and it works! Got to love salvage yards. For $14 in stead of $140.00.

Cleared the codes thrown by the inoperable pump and we are code free!!!

My HVAC definitely works better after clearing the fur off the temp sensor fan!!!! DO this if you have never cleaned it. Takes 5 minutes. Pull knee panel below wheel, pull fan little box of electrics from panel. Marvel at how filthy it is. Clean and reinstall.

Thx. Sure beats jacking up the car, even though I'm fairly well equipped...
But the constant getting up and looking for everything gets old quickly.

Small stuff today...
‘finally found some graphite powder after no luck some months ago.
i squirted some in my stiff drivers door lock, and some around the drivers door window seal , as the window was struggling to close and straining the electric motor
all sorted

Default Valve Cover

Old Valve cover burned through and started leaking oil into spark plug wells.
So I put on a used one from a car with 144k miles on it. it was pitted but not too bad.

Decreased and cleaned replacement valve cover with a wire brush and drill.
Repainted replacement valve cover with silver engine paint.
put in all new seals and grommets.
broke bolt off in block. DARN IT!!!
Drilled out and hell-coiled the hole.
put in new spark plugs
put dielectric grease on head of spark plug and inside coil where the spring is.
stretched spring to make stronger contact with spark plug
wrapped KAPON tape around coils. (REAL LUCAS COILS, the expensive ones... DO NOT BUY CHEAP ONES)
cut new coil gaskets
re-installed valve cover
Stomped old burned through valve cover into 1000 pieces and used as magnesium fire starter.!!!!!
OOPS I should have sold it on ebay for $100 to some poor fool who didn't know the difference.....
After all it lasted 196000 miles... pretty good actually, and came from a running car... lol...

Replaced lower shock mount bushing

started diagnosing SRS airbag light.

Renewed both hoses connecting to the PAS reservoir on one of the 96's.
Old ones wouldn't let go, had to cut a slit in 'em at each nipple.

Had Andy's bracket and Powerhouse lower pulley installed. Replaced spark plugs with Champion RC12YC. Removed harmonic balancer and had a stainles steel insert machined and installed. Next: 3.58 rear end and SC bigger vent ports and polishing.

Would you please present more detailed description regarding the harmonic balancer overhaul. That could be really important to a lot of US X300 owners in the future. Especially the stainless steel insert.
