Default Wire Wheels for my XJ VDP ?

Hi all. There is a fellow local to me who wants to sell me four chrome Jaguar wire wheels with centers on the cheap. Here is my quandry. I have five diamond polished wheels with the car now and have no issues with them. If I go for the wires am I inviting the Gods of Purity to descend from the mountain and smite me ? The wheels look great but am I apt to be bitten by the spoke tuning snake ?

Some people have problems with 'em some don't. How's that for a non-answer? :-)

There's certainly *potential* for problems, though.

Purity? Well, there are worse sins. At least wire wheels have a Britishy look. Personally I don't like 'em but do whatcha like. Jaguar specifically ecommends against them but that doesn't seem to stop anyone.

FTR they are not "Jaguar" wire wheels. They're aftermarket....probably Zenith or Dayton. Jaguar hasn't installed wire wheels since '74-'75 when the last XKE rolled off the assembly line.

Cheers

You're happy with the deal from the cost consideration and are aware of the risks of loose spokes / warped rims.

It now depends on how much you enjoy wheel cleaning. Wire wheels may look beautiful but take a lot of time to keep that way.

I miss some of the cars I've had in the past with wire wheels but I don't miss cleaning them!

Thanks, guys. And you are right. They do look good, but are a pita to maintain. Where I am now is more or less maintaince free which is attractive to me. But, damn, those wheels sure are purty.

Just think how pretty they'd look on your car while it sits in the garage, waiting for all those nasty spokes to be cleaned up, or the rims to be straightened up, etc...If it were me, I'd pass...

I would get them, love the look of wires on a Jag, they are made for each other. Put them on and do a nice detail on car and wheels, take pictures and because of wires in real life put the old wheels right back on.

Default wire wheels

Thanks to all you guys. The great weight of opinion seems to be that they are nice to look at but that's where it ends. The stock wheels are problem free and that is where I think I want to be. You know....if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I drive this car daily and it is problem free. I think I'll leave it that way. I'm off the wires.
