Xj6 1997 vdp trunk buttons not working
Hello Guys,
Well, the pushbutton cat on the trunk lid AND the dash button, BOTH don't work to open my trunk.
I am not sure if they both went out at the same time, because i am not the original owner. The key insert in the trunk lid works, luckily.
What would be my first 3 troubleshooting steps?
Thank you all in advance for your help,
Ted

I had a problem with my boot(trunk) lid push button as it became inoperative. I acquired a replacement that did work. However, on attempting to remove the push-button assembly, one has to remove the chrome plated lid moulding. Mine is plastic and the securing washer/spring clip will not release it and that resulted in a broken retaining peg! Needless to say I left it at that!
If the car is in VALET MODE it is completely normal.
If the system is NOT in valet mode, check the boot lid wiring at the hinge point.
The valet mode can only be cancelled by opening the lid and the car recognizing that it is open.(boot lid switch functional)

The switch should be in the center console cubby.

When I worked at the dealer, I would get requests from the customer for info about things like..HOW DO I PROGRAM MY GARAGE DOOR OPENER?
The service writer would ask for me a print-out procedure in my literature from training classes.
It was easier to find the OWNER'S MANUAL and walk to the copy machine, place the 8.5" x 11" paper folded into the owner's manual between the copied pages and lay it on the front seat.
I got called into the office one day and the service writer said that the customer was NOT AMUSED with the copied paper.
I explained that all the info was in the owner's manual. He agreed but just wanted to tell me about the customer's reaction.
RTFM is an acronym worth repeating.(I have been known to be a 'smart-***')
SMART-***: DEFINITION
Someone that can sit on an ice cream cone and tell you what flavor it is.
