XJ6 phantom current draw

XJ6 phantom current draw
1996 XJ6 LWB, 150,000km. Battery has suddenly started to go flat over a few days. Disconnected the battery and put an ammeter in series. Current draw is 0.07A, then every 30 secs or so, there is a 6A draw for a few seconds, then it falls away again. No lights on, ignition off, nothing running I can see. Any ideas where to start?

When you pull the key out it makes a contact in the ignition switch from pin 4 to 5 providing a ground to command the Security Locking Control Unit to start the shutdown / go to sleep sequence , otherwise it stays alive . In this shutdown sequence you will see some current draw as it goes through the steps and go to sleep with a steady 30 mA draw thereafter . There are a couple of easy steps to take to ease through this one being the lubrication of the key barrel to make that switch contact and the other being to turn off the auto switch on the column for it's retract and tilt up potion of the shutdown sequence .
Report back with your observations and someone will assist you with deeper advice if needed .

Problem solved! I had installed some flash sheepskin seat covers on the front seats, and hadn't realised that one of them was catching on the electric seat controls and drawing current regularly. Feel quite foolish, but glad it wasn't a bigger problem.
This is is my first Jaguar and I am loving having a class car compared to my normal Japanese drive. Shame I won't be able to keep it beyond next year.
