Greetings I’ve had my failed supercharged v8 from quite sometime and was finally able to get all replacement parts for timing. The issues was a knocking sound after a low oil pressure light. I’ve inspected timing components and they look fine to me as they are the upgraded metal components. Now I was able to get to the rod bearings but have no idea what the issue could be. I’ve provided photos to help. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you all.
Do you have a copy of my Jaguar Engine Training Course 168 that I had converted from a paper document to .pdf?
Jaguar also had a Training Course 180 but that one is V8 only. (updated to 168 when the V6 was issued)
Either one will give you the info you need. GUS will have the 168 on his site (I sent it to him) but I never had the 180 converted to .pdf so unless someone else did it, the only version on the internet is my copy converted.
All the info is on the side of the block as far as main and rod sizes in the selection matrix.
You have that MORSE STYLE primary setup so that is a plus.
You might want to 'plastigauge' to check the clearances?
By any chance do you know what rod bearings I need jaguar tells me it’s the blue one for 2000-2003.
What Jaguar told you may not be correct. You need to read the letters for the rod (big end) bearings stamped at the side of the engine block. Example:*KMJKE*BBAB*
*22222322*GJHKJ*
The *BBAB* means (engine front to back): B Green B Green A Blue B Green
You can use the factory specified rod bearings only if the crankshaft journals are undamaged and not worn to below the spec.
It may be completely obvious but you'll want to investigate the cause for the low oil light. Too much bearing clearance can cause low oil pressure as can worn oil pumps or even something as simple as low oil level.
No need to replace anything until you find the cause and address it though (IMHO).
One thing I noted from your pictures is how clean everything is in the timing area, it looks like an engine that saw regular oil changes (a guess on my part).
Good luck.
The reason for the oil pressure was that the oil pick up was clogged with debris heavily. I’m thinking since the pickup was clogged it basically starved the motor of oil and messed up the bearings. On my block these were the letters stamped on.
I had the same thing happen on my 540i beemer.
The debris was from the timing chain guides falling apart.
The pan was full of debris.
Since you have updated secondary tensioners maybe the pan and pickup were never checked when the new timing components were put in.
The cams have bearing surfaces that wouldn't like running dry (or even low) so you might want to check there as well...
After ordering multiple bearings for my xjr I finally came across the right ones. The part number is AJ83903. It turns out the color code for the bearings are green.

According to the stamping on your block *BBBA*, you need: B Green B Green B Green A Blue (Front to back of the engine)
