Default 1999 XJ8 code P0358 won't start

Hi all,

My beautiful Xj8 Sport wont start.
Battery is charged and has the right voltage when testing with a voltmeter.
Have tested the starter, flywheel is spinning freely.
Would a failed coil cause the ECU to cut voltage to all coils ???

Your help is appreciated (in advance).

Cheers
Tony

Welcome to the forum Tony,

I've copied this question from Intro to X308 forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

Spinning freely suggest you may have bore wash. Did you shut the engine off after running briefly, as in just moving the car over? Another possibility is fuel pump failure. Also see below:

P0358 is coil for cyl #8 and no the PCM won't cut all the fuel so suspect bore wash (and move coil to another cyl or replace).

Hi,
I did quickly move the car across my parking area (only took less than a minute). Sounds like it could be borewash. Will try the solution for that.

Thumbs up Problem solved

Hi all,

It wasnt borewash.

A faulty relay on fuel pump circuit was the culprit.

Thanks for all your help.

Cheers

Tony
