There are bolts that connect the downpipe assembly (catalytics) to the exhaust manifold at the top. There is a mounting bracket attached directly to the downpipe assembly in front which bolts directly to the frame of the car. These bolts must be removed. Assuming you have disconnected the exhaust system from the convertors, disconnected the O2 sensor wiring, and removed all the bolts, the convertors should drop straight down.

You do not want to hollow out the convertors.

Just curious, what is the reason behind not wanting to eliminate the converters ie. hollow them out???

It's called air pollution. Eliminating the catalyitics is against the law and you're creating additional pollutants.

If you're so concerned about performance, run high performance cats like emitech's which flow like crazy.

Exceeding the speed limit is also illegal, in addition an increase in pollution. And we don't want to do that now do we....

Hmmm. you want to compare a traffic citation with a felony, hmmm okay...........

Also if you're car is running correctly, you'll find most cars actually pollute less from 2000 to 3000 RPM vs idle to 1500 RPM.

And your car will suddenly display the CEL and throw low cat performance codes. Ok for you, but pretty daunting situation if you move to a city or state with EPA testing.
