Default 2000 XJR help me open boot, key will not turn in ignition or in the boot.

I've tried the trunk button on the fob and dash and still can't get it open. What I'm concerned about is the key won't turn in the ignition or in the boot. Is that normal?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Open the hood and on the passenger side behind the shock tower is a large diameter cable with a rubber cap over it. You can apply power on there and some form of life should appear. You may need to charge there for a while depending on how dead the battery is. Turn the steering wheel while you’re turning the key in the ignition.

With the battery being charged up , slightly move the shift selector slightly out of the park gate ( not in park switch ) and with your finger on the key barrel you may feel a key barrel solenoid click locking and unlocking the ignition key barrel

Do rock / turn the steering wheel left and right

It sounded like the OP wanted to access the battery from the boot to
probably charge it. To open the boot with the key, he should not need
to have charge left in the battery or charge it to gain access.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Your right Randy, the trunk should open with the black key even if a battery wasn’t in the car. The key cylinders need to be exercised occasionally (and dry graphite lubed) but, I get it. The key fob bypasses all that mechanical work.

It’s the path of least resistance until it resists back.

THere's a dude on YouTube ,shows how to get into boot , but requires drilling behind number plate.
I left my keys in the boot , locksmith wanted 65 quid , I drilled a hole a wiggled a rod around and it unlocked.

Assuming the key is the correct one, the lock cylinder is probably just frozen. Lubricate it and start working the key back and forth to the right (clockwise). It will eventually free up and the lock will open.

I see in your other thread that you have a battery charger on it under the hood. You said you have the ground on the shock tower bolt, which is probably not a good ground point. Do you get any lights on the car when you're connected with the charger? Headlights? Interior light? Dinging from the ignition key in the ignition? If not, then you're probably not energizing it well enough and you should look for a better contact point. I'm not sure where but I think there is a good ground point near the fuse box on the left side? Anyone else have specific points to apply power and ground to?

When I had to do that I was using a random bolt head on the engine, it worked fine for me.

I wouldn't except a connection from the shock tower as the bushes should isolate it.

You can get the boot open without drilling. You just need to fish a screwdriver in through the lower left license plate hole and you can push the lever. I did this to get into my trunk when the car was locked with no battery installed.

It has come to my attention that some need instant gratification.

Isn't that the primary reason we drive Jaguars?
