Default 2001 Jaguar Vander Plas failsafe mode

the failsafe mode warning is on. All moniters are complete and no error messages are showing. OBD is clear with P1111 showing. The warning comes on after engine warns up but the cruise control will not work even when light is not on.

Stumped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brake switch failed...... Quick swap (~$50) or you can take it out and try to replace the micro-switches...

+3 Brake switch! Probably has a P1571 Code stored that your scantool can't read.

Cheers,

You can test the brake switch... This is my post in the other thread: "When I pulled the old brake switch out, I tested it with multimeter, and found that even in "closed" position, the micro switch had a resistance of about 30ohm, as opposed to ~0... That was enough to trip the computer into thinking that brake is being applied. If I had more time, I could have soldered on a new switch myself for less than $1......."

This (in red above) should read "Open" position... in the closed position the switch should have low resistance, near 0 Ohms, as the contacts are closed - touching. In the open position, the contacts should exhibit near infinite resistance. The 30 Ohms you described (when OPEN), as opposed to the expected very, very high resistance, indeed implies that the switch is bad and can be mis-interpreted by the ECM.

Any details about the replacement process?

It would be good to know.

Where is the switch located?

Hi
Update: TSB is for X308 (1998 thru 2003) - Post# 10 is saying 2008 VDP - X358????
I found this TSB 206-07 on Brake Pedal Switch that motorcarman posted in "Yet Another Failsafe Engine Victim: thread.

Here is the weblink to view this TSB (go down to Page 4 for XJ models - Pages 1 thru 3 are for XK models):

I had the same Failsafe mode problem with my '01 VDP. I sprayed the part of the brake switch that connects to the brake pedal with WD-40 and problem solved. Before replacing the switch try the WD-40

PDF file with instructions & illustrations of the Brake Light switch R&R for X350 and X358 XJ:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/gxqn0iqzl0...ch%20R%26R.pdf

If you cannot view the PDF file on the dropbox webpage, then download the file by clicking on the download button, then direct download option (will bring popup - use run option, it open in your default PDF reader).
