Default 2001 Trunk Chrome - VDP v. Base

Would someone who has a 2001 VDP with the fluted trunk chrome measure the overall length of that strip?

I ordered one off slez-bay that measures 25.5 inches where as the standard one on my car (non-fluted) measures close to 39 inches.

I only needed the trunk switch but one seller had the trunk switch WITH the VDP chrome at the same price that others were listing just the switch.

I thought about dressing up my base with the fluted trunk chrome but it appears that these pieces are not interchangeable.

I think they are interchangeable, except VDP plinth is 25 and 1/2 inches long (at the bottom edge). You might have some paint discoloration after you remove the longer (standard) plinth.

The shorter VDP will not interchange with the longer base type because the longer base type has two extra holes at the ends because of the length. So the VDP will bolt on but there will a hole in the deck lid on either side.

I was wondering if there was/is a fluted one that was longer.

So much for "pseudo-plasing" my trunk chrome.

Wow,....I didn't know about the holes! This is good to know. I thought the ends are glued or something. I was thinking of "de-plasing" my VDP. The "bling-bling" grille and plinth, hurts my eyes. But then (after a lot of thinking), I decided to keep it original. It's just that with all that bling, it looks like an "old man's" car.

Trying hard not to be offended by the "old man's Jag" comment. Nah, just kidding. 56 years young here.........and love the scalloped trim. I would never dream of stripping my cat of it. There's an *** for every seat though, eh? Must be the woodcrafter in me.

I,m 68 and I LOVE my old man's car, a 1999 XJ8 VDP. I don't much care what anyone thinks. I just sold my 2011 Chevy Camaro SS, as it has been sitting in my garage for the last 12 months, all but unused since I bought my Jag. My Jag is in almost prestine condition, with approx 39,000 genuine miles, previously owned by a "Little Old Lady from Nashville". LOVE IT

Thumbs up old mans jag?

I cant wait to see the looks i get stepping out of it 25 years young. I love the XJ8L lots of room, planning to take a road trip from
Los Angeles CA to Las Vegas NV Having a friend drive while im with my date in the back playing the Tunes drinking wine all the way there, Loving the limo Tint all around

It's a car that can fit any age group, *Bling* is "in" right now, (most of the young ones here in Los angeles are driving the older 80's Jags.)

In Los Angeles they are called "Hipsters" not many of them can get their hands on the X308's just yet, or not very mechanically inclined to keep them maintained.

But Regardless of age, They car makes a statement for itself for who ever is driving it, Elegant Taste
