Default 2002 xj8 driver seat in down Position

I have a 2002XJ8 driver seat that is in the down position when I go to move it up I can hear some motor movement but nothings happening any suggestions first before I take the seat out? My thoughts now are that a sheer pen might be broken or a gear might be worn? I have a couple parts cars unfortunately they do not have the same color seat. ThanksPosition

The drive cables slipped out of the driven geared ends. The cables have a 'square' end formed like an old tyme speedo cable.

You need to unbolt the seat and flip it to gain access to the drive assy.

you must have jinxed me . I took the seat out the best part was I found $2.03 worth of change underneath it then I started working on the seat man that’s complicated anyway after checking cables on everything and finally found in the correct motor it is in the back of the seat pointing down anyway I pulled it then I pulled the gear drive make it as my part it was OK I couldn’t see anything wrong so I reassembled it I didn’t put it all back together 100% I just put it in the car and tested it it worked the seat started going up and then it won’t go down dang. It was far enough apart that I pulled the cable out of the motor and used a drill to back the seat back down so basically it’s locked in the same place but only in the opposition and won’t come back down the motor works in the opposition not in the deal. At least I got $2.03 for the day

Well, you gave more useful information "It was far enough apart that I pulled the cable out of the motor and used a drill to back the seat back down" I'm doing the drill fix first.

so a guru in Vancouver suggested swapping the modules from the passenger seat to the driver seat and see if that makes a difference I’m gonna give it a try tomorrow I’ll let you know but I will say when I guys in a pinch that cordless drill sure comes in handy

If the motor runs with the switch, then the seat controller is working?

This is almost the same situation the motor runs in One Direction but not the other? It’s just in the opposition now rather than being in the down position it has been suggested to pull the module off the passenger seat and see if that has made a difference I’ve got nothing to lose I’m gonna try it later today I will let you know what happens? Hopefully I score some more quarters

So I swapped the modules. The driver seat goes up and down. Now that the passenger seat will only go up. So the motor was good the cable was good But the module appears to be bad is that specific to this car or could I get one out of a donor vehicles?

This is the module and a picture of the cable that goes to the drive motor this is where the drill motor hooked up it would raise or lower the seat manually

Look in the boot for the VCATS label and see the suffix for the XXX in the part number.

I pulled it out of the blue car and I put it on a silver car The guru in Vancouver said that they were not specific to the car are used another one out of the same year and it’s working fine now. Another one of those times Sure nice to have a parts car
