2002 XJ8 drivers side window control
XJ8 2002, 70K miles. Starts easy, runs good. New member, but not new to site, have read it for years
Apologize in advance for lengthy post but wanted to cover all my work (many hours) to date.
Anyway, a power window problem. (Started about 2 months ago). The drivers door master switch does not work for any of the four windows. Each passenger window (3) works at its own window switch. Global open and close using key works all four windows. The outside door mirrors do however work from switch.
Firstly I took drivers door panel off and cleaned both of the 26 pin connectors, switch and door connectors. It, drivers switch, would work but then the next day would not!! Or, passenger windows would work but not drivers window. Did this multiple times. Always next day same problems. Now for last four days no windows work from drivers switch.
So besides cleaning both connectors, I have done -
Replaced 25A fuse location 15 and at 2 5A. Taken apart the drivers door switch (snaps apart at hooks) and it is the typical graphite button posts and gold pattern circuit board, cleaned all. Any other tests for the door switch? Took the door panel connector apart to see the pins/sockets and they look ok, but, have not checked pin continuity. Any test for pin voltage on the door connector?
Today (6/10) did the battery hard reboot test, chassis ground touching positive battery. No joy. Did it three times. (front side mirror adjustment still works)
I know that the Drivers Door Control Module is involved. But no clue what to try with it.
All ideas and suggestions very welcome, thanks. Is it time to start throwing money at it?
BTW, user wrd0225 posted 5/24/19 with exact same problem. Thus far they have not replied with, or if, fix. A battery reset was suggested.

progress and a weird odometer reset
after much work including dis-assembly of the drivers switch (more than once), I now have two working window switches and 3 working door modules!
I will get back with a photo or two.
Here's a funny thing. The cars odometer was showing 69,760 miles. Today on again driving, I notice it is now showing 62,000 miles. Yes, 62,000 exactly. I have had the battery ground off several times and swapped out the drivers switch and door modules. Some electrical bounce took odometer down. Why to 62,000, why not 64,000?
thanks Tom

thanks, tried pulling #15
Pull fuse #15, 25amp, left side passenger kickboard. Yes multiple times as well as discounting battery ground and short to battery positive terminal. I searched for this problem here and found that. Nothing worked - except that the mirror adjustment button control did work most of the time. The fix finally required running a jumper wire to a pin in the switch connector. I will explain this further, try to tomorrow.
But pulling #15 cause the odometer to run back??
This type problem (computer modules and networks) is why I enjoy my MG TD so much.

fixed
XJ8, 62,000miles
Drivers (left) window control problem fixed. Like motorcarman above said.
Problem was that the drivers window switch would not control any window (including the drivers). However, the switch at each window worked and so did the window global control using the key.
Problem was the drivers window switch. A connection from the circuit board to a yellow connector pin opened over time The (bad) solder joint became open. (Yep, took 16 years to happen!!). The fix was to make the required connection from the circuit board to a yellow connector pin. I don't know the pin number because there is no pin numbering on the connector, not even for pin 1. Since the yellow connector has 26 pins, two rows of 13. The bad pin was at the end/begining of one of the rows.
I took the switch apart. It is a bit tricky in that the back/bottom uses those six of those "fish hook" plastic tabs. When five them are pushed in, the back comes off and then everything else. If you do this the only warning is that there is a very small spring loaded ball, bb size. It makes the toggle selection for the mirror left or right adjustment. The switch works when a top toggle switch, or button, with a graphite face peg is pressed down. The graphite is electrically conductive and when it contacts the gold pad on the circuit board the circuit is closed.
Here is a photo of the circuit board, top side. Note the gold pad has inner and outer paths. These two paths are what the graphite presses against.
The window gold pads were not connected to a pin on the yellow 26 pin connector. Thus no circuit was made for the door control module to work. On the circuit board there are eight gold pads, two for each window, to go up or down (see above picture). That was the problem, all of the gold pads must connect to a yellow connector pin. Tracing the window board paths back to the yellow connect found that the connection between the path and pin had become open, not connected. So a small jumper wire was run from the circuit board to that connector pin. Here shows the jumper wire.
BTW, this explains why the mirror adjustment worked while the windows did not. The Mirror path and pins are located on other paths/pins, separate from the window circuit. And I recommend that if you are having this problem to get another window switch. Unless you, like me, simply must try to find a reason.
I spent a couple of days pulling fuse #15 in and out, pulling the ground off/on of the battery, swapping door modules and door switches. In the end, two switches and three door modules all worked in my XJ8 2002. I still have no clue as to why doing this changed the cars total mileage odometer from 69,700 miles to 62,000. (Yes 62,000 exactly).
