Default 2003 XJR-R1 Brake pad replacement

Greetings fellow Jagists.
I have a 2003 XJR with the R1 brakes (Brembos). I'm working on replacing the rear brake pads and I cant find a thread that describes my issue. I can't get the spring retaining pins out of the caliper. I've been using a small punch to try to tap them out, but they won't budge. I don't see a retaining pin or any other method to prevent them pushing out. Has anyone come across this or knows what I am missing in my process?

I never had any probs with swapping the brake pads on X-Type, S-Type, nor X308.
I do not understand your question/problem.
Can you send a picture, which tells, what the problem is?

JohnyMac, you need to push the retainer down to allow the shoulder of the pin to pass it. There's a step in the pins the retainer rides in to keep them in place, if you don't depress it you may be hammering the pin against the retainer.

Here is a couple of shots of the type of brake calipers I have. The drivers side (US) seems to be frozen solid. I started the other side (passenger - US) and the pins came out. Not smoothly, but fairly gentle persuasion.
Gentle persuasion worked on these retaining pins

Retaining pins stuck?

OK, that is indeed a system I have not seen before. But what ixfn wrote above makes sense.
I read it as pushing onto the centre of that metal bracket WHILE sliding the pins out, as a step in the pins prevents them to come out without pressing onto the bracket (which is how the system hold together in the first place).
As I wrote: I have never seen that system before, but this is what I would do after I have seen your picture.

Thanks very much for the replies, guys. I did get one set of pins out quite easily. The other set is still fighting me. Much soaking in penetrant going on right now. On the set that came out I did follow the advice and was able to push in the spring which seems to have helped. As you can see from the picture, the reason why I'm doing these at all is due to the shop who busted off two of the bleeder screws!
I think my next step is to try to twist the pins loose.

If nothing works, try Abacus Racing, 1372 Baker Road (near ORF): 757 363 8878, ask for Rob in service; they have a machine shop on site . The bleeder screws should back out with easy outs, new ones available at any parts store; on Brembos, just punch the retaining pins out (take pressure off the antirattle springs first). Fairly easy job. AAA shop on Virginia Beach Blvd is also a good choice (just before the up ramp to Military Hwy when heading East). While you have the wheels off, make sure the brake hoses are good.

Might be time to take all the calipers off and have them completely refurbished.

I've been to Abacus before. Excellent guys. I've a feeling I'll be heading back to see them again.

Make sure you can get replacement pins first, then heat em, beat em and/or cut em.

Truth! Thats where I'm at now. Looking for the pins. They are 84.3 mm long and 6mm thick. Have not found these yet, but I do have some questions out.
I'm trying FrenTech right now.

In Europe, but it might lead you to something closer.

Thanks for this, Mr. mayhem! The fellow on Ebay doesn't ship to the States. I've sent a question to the company in Germany to ask if they do.
