Default 98 XJ8 cranks but wont start

Hello all!! I am new to the forum and looking for a little guidance. I have a 98 XJ8 with a no start issue. cranks fine but wont fire. Recently replaced the fuel pump. ran fine afterwards and a few days later stalled out and wont restart. It has spark and will fire on carb cleaner. Looking for a point in the right direction. Thanks!!

Double check the connections where you took them apart at the tank. Do you have any gas fume odor and have you checked the fuse for the fuel pump?

Fuel, Air, Compression, Spark. Measure the fuel pressure at the test port. Check the supply voltage to the spark. Test the injector with a "Noid" light. Test the compression with a test gauge.

Maybe bore wash?

(WOT cranking to fix, or a little oil per cylinder.)

lw1998, have you run a code scan on her yet? You should be able to pull a code to help determine a culprit and determine a point for repair.
This is for a 2000, but you can do a search in the same area for a 98, its the electrical layout schematic.... http://www.jagrepair.com/images/Auto.../jagxj2000.pdf

Sounding more like fuel, then - filter, pump or injectors...

has been a while since I have been on, but did find the culprit. After replacing a bad fuel pump I got a hold of bad gas. pumped 8.5 gallons of water out of the fuel tank, flushed the system, replaced pump again, replaced filter. Starts good now.
