Default 98 xj8 Valve cover gasket?

Hi

I read that a 00' Lincoln LS 3.9 valve cover gasket set is the same as a 98 xj8 4.0L ?

Can anyone confirm that?

Thanks
Joe

I think it is close. If you search, you will find a picture on this forum of one sitting in a Jag cover: some holiday at the corners, but still able to seal perfectly. Are you sure you need it? Be careful with cleaning and installing the old one (use silicon or vaseline) and be sure it seats in all the grooves and it should work. Mine doesn't leak, even at the plugs, and I have taken them off a couple of times.

Thanks for the info..
Just bought the car and it was sitting for awhile I drove it a bit the weekend (a bit hard) andit seemed to be leaking from the bolt holes on the valve cover gasket.

Your car has the earlier AJ26 engine and the gaskets for the LS are enough different to make fitting them difficult. I suspect that you would be better off buying the correct set. Most bolt hole leaks are caused by over tightening which cracks the plastic cover.

Correct Test Point....not forgetting that quite often oil mist around cam cover bolts can also be caused by poorly maintained breathers, epsecially the Part Load breather orrifice which is often over looked.

These cam cover seals can be used a coiple of times if still in good condition and should be fitted dry....only using small dabs of silicon to keep the gasket in it's groove in the cover.

Spark plug well seals should always be replaced with new as they are subjected to more heat.

NEVER tighten cam cover bolts to more than 8-10nm.

The AJ26 gaskets are the orange and grey gaskets, not the black ones for the AJ27/AJ28.

The spark plug well seals are also different (2 holes attached vs single).
