99 xjr. wheel adjustment joystick/j gate lockout/map lights
Hello all.
I'm actually new to this however I have read some very helpful posts. I live in Landenberg PA. 40 minutes south of Philadelphia. I brought a BRG 99 xjr and I'm loving it. It had 199k miles but was well taken care of. I did put a new motor in it and some other work was also done. I'm hoping to get some guidance from the awesome people who frequent this forum. I am a contractor and I'm pretty good with my hands but some of these issues can be above my pay grade. Some of you forum veterans may have dealt with a lot of these issues i have so I'll just wait to see what the responses may be.
Just yesterday the wife couldn't get the car out of park. We over-rode the lockout with a steel rod. At the same time the joystick for the steering wheel wasn't working.....not sure what one has to do with the other but I'm hoping that someone knows.
Thanks all!
I'm so looking forward to hearing from you.

Welcome to the forum Stan,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
I can see you've already found your way to the X308 forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
Both brake interlock solenoid and steering wheeel reach motor issues are regulars but I'd think the two together are co-incidental rather than related.
Even though your forum username should make it obvious, please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
You can also visit the US Northeast Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-northeast-35/ to find other members in your region.
Enjoy the forums.
Graham

99 xjr. wheel adjustment joystick/j gate lockout/map lights
Good morning all.
Just a quick update on an earlier post. I had an issue where my steeering wheel joystick stopped working, the J gate locked me out and my map lights stopped working. I had assumed that they absolutely had to be related. After some replies and a call to the dealeship, no they are just coincidence. So not being very good with electrical diagnosis, I made an appointment with Union Park Jaguar in Wilmington Delaware USA.
265.00 USD for the diagnosis. I also added an oil change. Three hours later I get the dreaded call from the service department......here comes my 3500.00 estimate right? NO!! IT WAS 1 FUSE!
unreal!! How?? I checked all the fuses in all three fuse panels.....
Well I learned that there are at least 5 fuse panels
They replaced the fuse, tested the circuit, and cut my diagnosis charge in half. Then washed and vacuumed the car and changed the oil.
Very respectful and very professional. Im a contractor and look like a contractor. Im not made of money and this car is important to me in some deep psychological ways. Union Park Jaguar made me feel important. They were honest and very nice.
Now I can tell my wife that I was right about something!!
In closing......
Steering wheel tilt reach joystick
Map lights
J gate lockout
All on one fuse......under the left rear seat......somewhere.......
Thanks all. Im truly excited about restoring and modifying this beast. If an assasin was a car....it would be an XJR
