Default ABS/ASC Issue

Hi Guys,

What is the difference between LNC 2210 AD (grey solenoids) and LNF 2210 AD (blue solenoids), the latter being JLM21323

I have a 2001 XJR that I bought with issues. Previous owner bought the car with these erorrs: ABS, ASC not available, incorrect part fitted, Brake Fluid Low. Car will not shift out of 1st gear and speedo not working. Also, shifts very hard into drive and reverse.

He gave up on the car after replacing several ABS modules (LNC2210AD) and I bought the car.

I have since plugged in my Launch X431 and retrieved the following codes:

P1637
p1720

Live data from the wheel speed sensors registered 0 kph on each wheel

My question is .... After reading the forums, it seems that the correct module for the car should be LNF 2210 AD (JLM21323)?

Supposing that somebody fitted the incorrect module while trying to troubleshoot would this cause the issues mentioned above?

Any assistance would be appreciated

Cheers

Andrew

PS

I did a bit more reading and came across this thread:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...stions-125564/

This person has a similar problem to me in that he is unsure which is the correct ABS module for his vehicle, but his vehicle appeared to drive normally.

I will do as was suggested and check the "VCATS" sticker in the trunk to try and establish the correct ABS controller for my car.

I assume that the transmission is not shifting out of 1st as it is not getting a signal from the wheel speed sensor.

Does the ABS module provide the signal to the speedometer and the TCM?

For what it's worth, I took the module from my XJ8 and put it in my XJR for troubleshooting purposes. They are identical part numbers.

The XJR had the symptoms you showed above, AFTER the new module was installed. Wouldn't shift out of first, and no speedo.

It would appear it is a programming issue where the "new" module needs to be programmed to the car somehow.

Here's some more information that Motorcarman posted before. Maybe it should be made into a sticky, or something.

As he and other members have said, sometimes it is plug and play, and other times programming is required.

"ALL X308/X100 4.0 Jaguars sold for the U.S. market from 2000MY> have TRACTION CONTROL.

There are 5 different modules for the 1997-2002 X100 and 1998-2003 X308

X100 > (V)018107 (1997) WITH TRACTION CONTROL=JLM20130
X100 > (V)018107 (1997) EXCEPT TRACTION CONTROL=JLM20129
X100 (V)018108-042775 (1998-1999) WITH TRACTION CONTROL=JLM20556
X100 (V)018108-042775 (1998-1999) EXCEPT TRACTION CONTROL=JLM20555

X308 > (V)878717 (1998-1999) WITH TRACTION CONTROL=JLM20556
X308 > (V)878717 (1998-1999) EXCEPT TRACTION CONTROL=JLM20555

From 2000MY there is ONLY ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!JLM21323

1997 XK8 uses different modules. (JLM20129 OR JLM20130)
1998-1999 BOTH XK and XJ share the same modules. (JLM20556 OR JLM20555)
2000MY onward BOTH XK and XJ share the same modules. (JLM21323)

The part you need is JLM21323 (9 valve, 6 pipe From VIN F00035).
Basically a module from 2000-2003 XJ8/R

You can also use XK8 (V) A00083 To (V) A30644 9 valve, 6 pipe.
Basically a module from 2000 to 2002 XK8/R.

The module will have 9 BLUE colored solenoids on the 'inner' side of the module.

Earlier modules WITH TRACTION CONTROL will have GREY solenoids and are NOT compatible.

6 Valve 5 pipe modules (EXCEPT TRACTION CONTROL) are NOT compatible.

NEW modules from Jaguar usually require configuring to the vehicle.
Used ones USUALLY can be plugged in and function correctly IF the module is CORRECT.

SOMETIMES the modules need to be configured to the vehicle.

I repaired some modules and they sat for YEARS. I sold one to a guy and he stated that when he connected it to the car, the instpk displayed 'WRONG PART FITTED'.

He had to drive to my shop for me to configure it as a NEW MODULE and it accepted the replacement module.

I can only assume that the programming was lost over time. (capacitor discharge????)

BE AWARE that the part number on the module IS NOT the Jaguar part number.
There will be some sort of "LNCxxxxx or LNFxxxxx" type number.
THAT IS NOT THE PART NUMBER.

You might use it for reference but I don't know."

Thanks again .... I also found that article to be informative .... as good as my Launch Diagnostics is, it cannot code VCM IDS modules.

Will have to trailer the car to the Jag and Landrover dealer 200kms away ..... Grrrrrr

Would I be able to code with a eBay VCM and an early version of IDS? Doesn't look the mongoose interface is 100% compatible with x308's

Cheers

What about simply unplugging the module? I think it can be driven normally that way, although without ABS or stab/TRAC, etc. Easier than trailering it.

Unfortunately it stays in 1st regardless .... TCM most likely needs a speed signal

I don't think that's why it stays in 1st. Several members have reported driving their car while the module was out for repair.

Default Thanks

Thanks guys for all the suggestions - it seems like the logical thing do do is to get the right abs controller and take it from there. Its always a challenge working on a car that several other people have had a go at.

Incidentally, there is no "restricted performance" or transmission fault warnings at this point

Its disappointing that the VCATS does not list the ABS controller

Will keep u guys updated but wont be anytime soon - I will have to source another abs module and thats going to take some time even if I order off ebay

Cheers

Default Update

An update ....

I managed to source a JLR21323 refurbished module from a Jaguar vendor on eBay. After fitting I performed a hard reset and cleared the codes with a Launch Scanner.

I still have the following problems:

No Speedometer
ABS and Brake warning lights
ASC and TRAC unavailable
Wrong part fitted
Brake fluid low

Transmission still in limp mode (although there is no trans failure message)

Live data still shows no wheel speed from any of the wheel sensors

ABS module fault code is now u2500

Any ideas?

PS the nearest VCM IDS is 200km away ... will I be able to configure the abs with a chinese VCM or mongoose?

Update - Problem solved in 10 minutes when connected to a WDS - As mentioned I bought a reconditioned JLR21323 - all that I had to do was configure it to the car with WDS.

Sorry - I actually sorted this out a few months back and forgot to post solution

It seems as mentioned earlier that some modules need to be coded/programmed to the car otherwise they will not communicate over the CANBUS

Thanks to everyone for their help
