Additional Radiator Fan...thoughts???
okay maybe its just me but i do not like taking my car out for a drive when its 100F+ outside. i have a HID display of temperature in that heat she runs 204-214F with AC on around town....i dont know if that is normal.....but it makes me cringe a little at high temps.
in cooler weather 75- she runs 203-205 all day. because its been really hot lately in California... i was thinking of ways to keep her cool while staying still....the OEM fans run and operate so i do not have an issue with factory fans both turn on and run with AC at low speeds.
searching ebay i came across universal radiator fans that have sizes between 7" to 16" sizes...they can push or pull air they are about 80-100watts. ... an idea came to install one from the grille area and have it push air while the factory fans pull air when they activate. ....the universal fan i would mount with a switch inside the cabin so i can turn it on when i please.
any thoughts on this idea or has it been done before or will i be the first? loll
anything i missed that might be an issue.
i checked under the front bumper there is more than enough space in front of the radiator to the bumper ...fans thickness ranges from 2.5 inches to 4 inches in total...

The thermostat full open position is achieved at 96 degrees Centigrade or 204 degrees Fahrenheit. You are operating in the normal range for the engine. Most modern engines operate considerably higher than the 160 degree thermostat days.
The problem you create by lower the engine temperature significantly is the ECU thinks the engine is cold and enriches the mixture to warm it up and gas mileage goes out the window. Another thing to consider is continual running in an enriched stated plays havoc with the catalytic convertors and will eventually render them defective and require replacement.
If you are concerned about the efficiency of the system you would be dollars ahead by having the radiator professionally cleaned, the block drained and flushed and replace the water pump and thermostat.
If you don't already have one it would be a good tiime to switch over to the aluminum housing thermostat tower.
Last but not least I would recommend the installation of the "Real Gauge" system from one of the forum members. TheJagWrangler - Home - About Us

+1 on radiator cleaning.
But you also might try a different thermostat. I have three of them that I have compared both in use and in a pan of water. One opens early and is wide open at about 190 deg, another opens late and is still not fully open at 212 deg. The one I am using now appears to be right in spec. and is fully open around 201-204.
Changing to the aluminum tower is a very good idea as it's easy to break the old plastic one when changing thermostats. The crossover pipe and hoses should also be replaced if you have not done so.
