Default Air Bag Light!!!

Hello all... This is really a great forum. This is my first XJ8 and can't believe how I've gone this long without one. I've had six Corvettes, and still have a 79 but the Jag is just great. I do have one issue and that is the air bag light is on and after checking the plugs and wiring that I can see, it is still on... Any ideas? I really hate the damn light on...
Thanks all...
Curley

When the restraint system first does it 's checks the light will flash. It flashes stops momentarily and flashes again. Then repeats for at least few cyccles them stays permanently on. You nee to observe the flashes and record the numbers. An example is it will blink 2 times and hesitate and the blink 7 times stop for a few seconds and then repeat. That sequence would indicate a Code number 27. Code 27 will link to a specific problem.
Observe, record and then posts the code and we can help you further.

Check the connections to the driver and passenger seats, I had this problem, cleaning the connections (WD40) and making sure they were good cured my problem, hope it helps?

When I put the key in and turn it, the airbag light comes on as it should, then goes out and right back on again. No flashes, just on steady.. I've checked the connections under the seats and all seems fine. I'll try shooting some WD40 on them but they seemed real clean. Thanks for your help. My son thought a small piece of black tape might work to block the light..... as he walked away scratching his head...
Except for that, I'm open to any ideas..

The X308 does not have a 'flashing'-MIL for code ID. You will need to use a diagnostic machine capable of reading SRS modules.

And dont spray with wd40. $50 it is the cancellation module aka steering wheel cassette. As bob said you need codes for proper diagnosis.

Apparently, my problem is the clock spring. A guy told me to lock the steering wheel in the up and in position. It worked great. Now the light stays out!

Well then replace the cancellation module (clockspring?) and if it works, you have your answer.
I just hate throwing parts at cars and HOPE that it fixes the problem. I like to have the actual DTC so I know that the SRS module agrees with my diagnosis.

Used parts that are 'known-good' can be a valuable asset but buying new parts and 'throwing' them at a problem can get expensive.
