What made them think that the bolts are bad? The bolts just have an offset washer and don't really have much wear and tear. It is more likely to be worn bushings or ball joints that prevents the shop from being able to adjust it into proper alignment. Shocks matter too. In my case, the subframe bushings were also shot so I dropped the subframe down and replaced the bushings and motor mounts. After that, the local shop had no trouble aligning it. It's been a while since I redid the front suspension on my car, but I'm pretty sure that the coil springs have to come out before you can replace any of the bolts. If you're that far into it, replacing the bushings and ball joints seems logical.

If there is a specific reason that they think you need new bolts, then disregard what I said. Otherwise, I think you need to look a little deeper. That was my personal experience, anyway. Good luck.

PM motorcarman; if you're using a shop over in Fort Worth anyway, it's not that much farther to Decatur and you would have a very knowledgeable forum member!!

Thanks but I DON"T HAVE ALIGNMENT EQUIPMENT.

Being mostly retired I have no interest in buying an alignment machine.
I did take one of my X308s to Superior Auto in Decatur after a suspension rebuild a few months ago.
They have modern alignment equipment and are about 15 miles from me.

I have not done alignments since I left the dealer in 2006.

I'm not completely retired (I do like to work on one or two a week) but I don't do the 40 hour weeks anymore.

Alignment equipment takes up a lot of space in a shop so it has to be used to pay for itself.
My shop is only 1500 Sq Ft so I only have two lifts.

I like a slow pace lately.

Damn Bob, that means the living room and dining room for the house are the shop floor and the other is the bedroom/break room. The kitchen, I'll bet, has the balancing machine.

To be obsessive-compulsive, by-the-book, I bet you are probably supposed to replace just the locknut. If I remember right its a nylock type. Bob probably could confirm. But that shouldn't be a Jaguar special order thing. However, I've never had an alignment shop insist that I bring them new locknuts.

Me Too !

Mostly retired this year . Finally getting around to all my OWN car projects. Finally time to do things the way you know they should be done and not worry about time efficiency .

I don’t know anything about this shop but I saw it next to the Gas Monkey garage when we visited there. I also have a XJR so I kept this garage in mind in case I needed something.

The only suspension bolts that I have had to replace were the lower ones on the rear shocks as they had seized up. And the only alignment issues were when I tried the urethane bushings from Paramount when they first came out several years ago. The inner sleeves were one or two mm's too big and they would slop around. The Paramount roll bar bushings fit and they're still on there and looking good.

Default Diy alignment

So tried finding someone competent to set my front end up but not impressed with the mumbling I was hearing !, so made my own gauges and stands I already have a diy laser tracking tool and got toe perfect(.05) toe in, but struggled with camber!, only to find a worn cam plate (have you seen the price of those!, ). Looks like the we alder coming out again! Ha ho.
