Default Here is a PDF file - Jag XJ8 generator R&I

The attached PDF (Jag XJ8 generator R&I) is an extract from my JTIS cd. Open the attachment and go to page 2. In the removal section the part you show in this thread has a picture of it between item 6 and 7. Looks like 1 screw holds it in place.

Here is the PDF file attachment:

Isn't nice to have instructions and illustrations. I love my JTIS cd.

All the above said is right.
It's a cooling duct that is screwed on right underneath the oil pan.
(13mm bolt)

Yup, that's the piece that must be removed when replacing the oil filter. I'll bet at the last oil change the bolt didn't get tightened.

That piece feeds a bizarre u-shaped duct that flows air at the alternator.

What does the "R" have -- I have never changed the oil myself in the 02.

Is the alternator in the same location?

Alt is on the bottom pass side of the engine on the R. Above is right. it is the cooling duct for the alt. goes between the snorkel and the front end pan. I just took mine off and came in to let the oil drain out maybe 5 minutes ago.

Very interesting. Mine must be missing, all I have is the elongated U shaped duct up to the alternator. I never knew there should be a piece connecting to that up to the spash pan.

Learn something new everyday!
