Question Body Control Module 2001 XJ8

My headlights recently stopped working properly and my mechanic thinks it's the body control module, which is also causing my steering wheel adjustment mechanism not to work. He reads signal going into the module from the headlight switch but nothing coming out.

If we replace the body control module on my 2001 XJ8, does the new module require programming after installation? It seems finding someone to do that programming in the Memphis area might be problematic. My mechanic's BCM program guy doesn't do Jaguar, and the local dealership won't touch anything 10+ years old.

Thanks for any insight. Driving in daytime only right now! .

That is one of the many reasons that a forum like this is so invaluable. There is such a wealth of information
available on specific issues that are usually tucked away in obscurity.

VCATS. The suffix probably should match but I never tried to install an incorrect one.

Maybe BCM -- maybe a broken wire or solder joint in the multifunction switch. Lights work in high beam or in auto or any setting?

I like this line of enquiry….there are also 2 relays under the bonnet front left clipped to a bracket just behind the headlight pod, these can fail too.

headlights will illuminate when I press the button on the key fob. Will also illuminate when I pull back the “flasher” lever and will remain on as long as the level is held back in the flash position. But that’s it. Nothing else turns them on.

I think you want the VCATS suffix to match. At least, I would go down that road first when buying a used BCM. You have to buy one anyway, might as well try to get one with the correct suffix if at all possible. Might result in less heartburn if you get the wrong BCM and it either doesn’t work, or something else gets funky.
