Where is the camshaft position sensors located on the 2000 Jaguar Vanden Plas 4.0?

Thanks,

In case no-one posts, drop an intro in the New Members section and when you get acces then download JEPC and/or JTIS (parts catalog & workshop manual).

You could say why you wish to know

There are 2 sensors on the AJ27 engine, one on the rear of each head.
The intake cams have the 4 lobe reluctors and the sensors are near the throttle assy.

Do you have pic of them? I'm not sure where the rear of the cylinder head is located. Is the side of the engine close to the rear the rear?

Thanks,

The engine is mounted longitudinally. The front is towards the front of the car. The left side is on the drivers side in the US. So the rear of the cylinder head is near the firewall.

This displays the single sensor location (#6) on an earlier version of the engine. In your case there is one located on each bank.

I finally found it. Thank you all for your info. Now I know the front, rear, left and right side of my engine. Awesome stuff.

Now, after I change the coils, I will change the camshaft position sensors.

The car is misfiring on all cylinders. I changed the spark plugs and will change the coils. I hope changing the coils will fix the issue but all the coils cant be bad, right? Checked the timing which is fine.

It cranks and runs but sputters because of the misfires. What else could it be?

I had a misfire on four cylinders, which I decided was the ECU. I sent it to Automotive Scientific. They tested it, confirmed it was the problem, and rebuilt it.

Thanks RJ237. I'll try that after I replace the coils.

OK, now the question: What else could it be?

Well, it could be it could be the PCM or a number of other things such as one of the ignition modules but there is almost zero probability that it is ALL the coil packs. The P0300 code alone does not provide enough information to fire the parts cannon but have fun!

I don't see how a bad cam sensor could cause those codes but not a code for a bad sensor. I suppose fairly cheap to change if you're inclined to throw parts at it.

I changed the coils. The car runs better but not the way it should.
I know that everyone here doesn't think it's the camshaft sensor. What else could it be? I checked the timing, timing tensioner, added fuel injector cleaner to the fuel. I will have the ECU tested. If I disconnect the Camshaft sensors, should I get a code? If not or if so, would that be my answer to my question?
