I’m and old school mechanic pre-ECU we had things called “points” back in my day😂 I have a 2001 Jaguar x308 XJR, one thing I’d like to change is Auto Windows! The car only has auto window for the driver door (and that’s only down) I’d like to have auto windows all round 😁 Most fords have fully programable auto window 🤔 would it be possible to use ford door window modules in place of Jaguar door window modules? I’ve looked into Can-bus a little and was hopping that there is some way of getting the jaguar and ford modules to communicate over can-bus ?? Would it be possible to use something like Arduino to translate IE:- intercepting ford ID and broadcasting jaguar ID, or something like that 🤔 is there a simpler way ? please please tell me,

Since Ford made the electronics for the X308 since '96, it should talk directly. The radio and dash connectors have Ford stamped right on them.
But I believe the windows aren't controlled except be activation and limiting switches.

Btw, ...I can relate to points, 73 Nova, (2) 67 Mustangs, 69 Mustang, 67 Bronco.

 

I’m not any help on the windows issue, but I recall points as well. I had to routinely replace them on my ‘63 Volvo 122S. Darn things would break from metal fatigue all the time, so I took to carrying a couple of fresh sets in the car along with a feeler gauge and screwdriver.

 

CAN bus data do differ from brand to an another even when they are under one bigger. Sometimes code differs a lot.

I'm assuming it's a typo when you say you have a 2001 XKR, as your main info states that you have a 2001 X308 XJR, so I'm assuming you are looking for all 4 windows to have auto-down ability.

I am puzzled because my 2001 X308 XJ8 VDP does have auto-down on all four windows.

So, is this a VDP-only feature?
Or is it a feature not available on UK cars?
Or is the feature fitted to you car but simply not working?

As my VDP has auto-down on all 4 windows I would assume the wiring is in place on base models?

Checking the owner's introductory video it does state that all X308 models have auto-down on all windows.

If you are looking for auto-up on all windows, I doubt that would be a good idea, too much risk of possible injury.

I suppose my comment was a little sparce 🤔 my 1996 ford Scorpio cosworth has auto up/down on all windows/sunroof and if you press and hold lock button all windows/sunroof will close, press and hold unlock and all windows/sunroof will open, I think some call it full closure, so I was hoping to intergrate a scorpio can unit into the jag,

Ian,

But your X308 XJ already has the "full closure" feature.

While in the car with the doors closed, if you press and hold the central locking button any open windows and/or open sunroof will all close simultaneously.

If you are outside the car and insert your key into the drivers door and turn and hold the key counterclockwise (UK) clockwise (US) all of the windows will fully open simultaneously.

I will try that tomorrow ! mine seem to loose settings around every week and only drivers door has auto down, maybe I have some other faults with door modules or something, but I like that fords do it from key remote
